A "Jack Tar" of the British Empire's Royal Navy on shore leave gets his shoes shined in front of a Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) painting of Imperial China.

They had cell phones back then?

Randy, great shot. Give me some history on "Jack Tar". What time period is this bluejacket? Mike

I thought the same thing too about the cell phone. It's of course his seabag.
From K&C Streets of Honk Kong series--late 19th-early 20th C.

Randy,

Excellent stuff! Have you started collecting the SOHK? If you have welcome to the club (small club as there is about 3 of us at the most!).

The Sailor is holding his kit bag in in hand.

Selectively. I have the HK policeman at attention too. I bought the sailor after seeing The Sand Pebbles.

Yes, that is a neat piece! And very witty about the cell phone!

I'm thinking about joining you guys in SOHK, I like the subject, and each figure and set is really well-done, well thought-out.

Prosit!
Brad

HeeHee...In my neck of the woods "shine" means something completely different. I clicked on this thread expecting to see a diorama of a shipment of "moonshine" being stolen or something along those lines. Great figures and camera work at any rate.

That kind of "shine" can be more likely found in the Shanghai film below. Pardon the pun but I heard this film was a real piece of "junk". :D

I think I passed on it. Sean Penn can not act any better than I.

His best performance was as Spicoli in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". He wasn't bad in "Bad Boys", either (the original "Bad Boys", about gang members, not the later Will Smith/Martin Lawrence vehicle). But otherwise, he really seems to have been more famous for being a knucklehead.

Prost!
Brad

I agree with you Baron. Spicoli was his best performance. I'm not sure he was "acting" though. I find this thread has given me quite
a prodigious thirst. I must repair to my basement bar-room, the "Powder-keg" and sample some of last season's Appalachian corn nector. Good night to all.....
