This is a conversion I completed several ago of an Imex Union officer. A number of guys from the Accurate/Imex family have a propensity for going into battle armed only with a pistol, so sometimes I like to beef up their armament. Since this officer is taking such careful aim with his revolver, I decided that he would probably be a good candidate for Berdan's Sharpshooters.
As is, the Imex figure wears a sack coat. Using some grey stuff putty, I lengthened it into a frock coat.
His 1859 Sharps rifle is a combination of TSSD Sharps carbine and a Marx Civil War accessory rifle whose fore-end looks remarkably like a Sharps. I also fashioned some shoulder straps out of putty.
The rifle sling is simply a paper clip cut and shaped to fit.
The finished figure all painted up. For rifle green I use Humbrol 149 Dark Green, one of my favorite colors in their line. I use Humbrol in probably 95% of my painting.
In real life, if I were to wear a rifle slung across my body like this, I would have it muzzle down, the better to reach it, but I really want the right side of the Sharps action pointed up to make it stand out.
In my painting I rarely do any drybrushing or shading, but in this case for the rifle lock I drybrushed aluminum over the gunmetal, and I was super pleased with how it made the detail on the TSSD sculpting pop.
