Movie trivia category: There are two characters in cinema that are named July Johnson. The first one appears in the 1968 film "Bandolero", and is portrayed by George Kennedy. He is a town sheriff in pursuit of bankrobber/kidnappers Dean Martin and Jimmy Stewart. The second, and much more widely known, is Chris Cooper's character, also a town sheriff, in 1989's "Lonesome Dove". He is also in pursuit of a criminal. Similarities in character pretty much end there. A writer for True West magazine, Marshall Trimble, states that he was unable to find any historical figure by that name and is of the opinion that Larry McMurtry, author of the 1985 novel 'Lonesome Dove', borrowed the name of July Johnson from "Bandolero" for his story. And there it is, the answer to the question nobody asked, but a wonderful trivia question none-the-less. :smile2: -- Al
