While up in Northern Michigan I stopped by a VFW post that had a Sherman and a few other military equipment on display outside. I don't know the model of the sherman. There is a number plate.Sherman1w.jpg The other pics did not show.
 
Very likely an M4A3. Probably a reconsitioned one. That's based on 1) most M4s went overseas and few came back and 2) there are a LOT of M4A3s on display in Wisc-Mich-Minn-Ohio area

This seems to have been a widespread thing. I've read a few times about Australian Matilda tanks being tipped into the ocean after the island fighting finished. I think there was some value in the scrap metal market too - many probably got purchased on the cheap and got cut up.

They tipped hundreds of Japanese tanks and artillery pieces too! I often wish there was a Japanese gun in my local Anzac park to flank the WW1 German piece.
