Hi All

Please I have many time's seen that both private people and Companys are not welling to ship goods out the US. I am wondering why is that?. As long as the receiver is welling to pay the cost, then I can not see the different between writing an address in Europe and an US address.
On this forum I have seen a member wanted to sell his collection, another member from Germany was welling to buy, but got the answer, sorry not interested to ship outside the US?.

I will ship outside the USA but the main problem I have is not knowing the exact cost.
If the item is over 4 lbs. it has to go priority which is very expensive.
I shipped one item that was one ounce over 4 lbs and I had only requested $15 for postage and it cost me $37, so I was out the difference.
Now I request at least $25 to cover postage, even tho it may not be that much so in reality the overseas buyer sometimes get the short end of the stick. But unfortunately that is how I handle it now.

The biggest issue is the lack of adequate tracking for the shipments to certain countries..England and the U.S. has a postal agreement, so that a customs # from either country can actually be followed to its destination. I have sucessfully shipped to Spain and Italy, without issues. But it is not fun paying for something, to have your shipment totally disappear...and never recovered. Michael

I'm the one who didn't want to ship outside the US.I don't have much experience shipping out of the country.I made a trade earlier this year with a forum member from Australia and it went ok but cost $50 to ship.I also don't know much about money exchange and don't want to end up with Euros.

I also wanted to say I've heard some horror stories of people losing a lot of money when shipments get lost and what a hassle trying to get your money when the items are insured.I offered free shipping on anything over $150 bought and I would take quite a hit shipping out of US.

Probably half of my business is overseas. I have shipped just about everywhere. 95% of the time I use USPS 1st class mail. In eight years I have lost two packages out of thousands. Many people don't like to use this method because they're is absolute no way to track or insure a package. I do tell customers that I am not responsible for any lost orders shipped this way. I have replaced the orders the few times there was a problem though. The other alternative is USPS Priority Mail International, which is 3 times the cost, but does offer the ability to track (as long as it is scanned along the way) and insurance is available. FedEx and UPS are just to cost prohibitive to send anything but a letter overseas.

There is also some additional work using 1st class mail because you have to fill out customs forms and actually go to the post office. With priority mail I can pay for the shipping and print all of customs forms online. Then just drop it off at the postal hub down the street from my house without standing in a line. My time is valuable :)

Yo Troopers, obviously not Cavalry people, just footsloggers lol. Its easy as ABC shipping out of one Country to another. Buy a set of Digital Scales, weigh the parcel at home. Get your Country's post Office up say USPS on the web, and look at the cost to that Country. From the USA I always get Priority mail, OK so its more expensive but it gets hear in five days, and I have to sign for it, and I know I am going to get it. If by some chance it did get lost your covered. As for the Currency side of it, ebay has a currency calculator, just key in the Country's currency into $$$$ if US and get it sent via Paypal, its like taking candy off a baby. Take the parcel to the post office stick a customs label on it the USPS do the rest. Now whats hard about that. If they don't want to pay for Priority mail that's down to the buyer if it gets lost or damaged (Tough) make that very clear to them. I never moan about postage unless I get ripped off, IE: if I pay $35.00 and its only $20.00 then I come down on them like a ton of bricks. Before the Web I had to travel many miles to buy items at Antique fairs etc, take me all day and add up the cost of petrol and meals out and time lost, postage works out a lot cheaper. So if they moan about postage cost DONT sell them the item, let them go buy it somewhere else. Now buck up you guys in the US, or will have to tell Shannon to stop giving the Promotions out in the US, and keep you all at PRIVATE ratings. GET MY MESSAGE TROOPERS lol.:D.

Gary is correct shipping is Way our of Line! USPS discontinued "ground

service abroad a little while ago, so everything has to go 1st class (with size

and weight limits) or priority!

I just sent a tank to the UK and it cost me $43.50:eek: a year ago $20

would have covered it.

I simply eat any additional cost.....just consider it part of the fees. Its

really my responsibility to know shipping rates.

That is why I spend the time I do with my various hobbies, if you are not

on top of fees & shipping charges........your in trouble!

Michael, everything I ship is always insured.

Now collecting......thats another story! I had a $660 claim for items I

purchased in Germany.....it took 8 months to receive my money, and I had to

pay the sender $100 for his time to file the claim, and receive the

money. In Germany, the claim is paid to the person that buys the

insurance......even though I paid for it!

I totally agree with everything John has said about shipping. There is no reason not to ship overseas especially for an ebay item because your high bids will come from overseas buyers. If you shut yourself off to that market, you're losing money ultimately. I try to be careful about shipping costs but I, too, invariably wind up eating some. One more point, whether it's ebay or not, if you use paypal you will always get paid in the currency you designate.

I ship all over the place. I tend to use Priority or Express Mail and I buy insurance for the items at full value.

Many foreign buyers do not like this as they have to pay customs fees but I strongly feel that all items of value leaving my facility must be protected. Sometimes it means that I lose a sale but what happens if something goes wrong? Especially if using paypal? The buyer would fully refunded and I would not be able to collect the full value of the item if I were to declare a value less than what it sold for.

I suppose a lot of people do not want to deal with all of that.
