Hi there!
Here is how I build the various signposts needed for the Hudson & Allen Road sign sets.
1. Do your homework to find the proper style that you will need for the time and location. These can be wood, metal or even cast concrete construction.
2. I use both styrene and bass wood to make my sign placards and supporting posts. In some cases you will note that the uprights or posts are structural steel shapes such as angle or channel.
I use Evergreen brand styrene plastic and they also offer structural shapes.
3. Use the full color printed sign from the Hudson & Allen set as a size templet fro the wood or plastic placard.
The easiest way to do this is to precut the signs you are using from the sheet. I use a sharp #11 X-Acto blade with a straight edge for a clean and straight cut.
4. After you have painted your signpost set with hobby paints put it aside to completely dry.
5. Now apply common white glue (PVA) to the placard surface. Now place the printed sign in place and lightly press in place. If any glue gets on the surface immediately wipe it clean with a clean damp tissue or cloth.
6. I usually will set the signs aside for a few hours and then spray the entire surface with a light coat of spray clear matt such as Testor's Dullcoat.
I apply a clear protective surface to everything I do to protect the paint from handling.
All of this is really very easy to do and the results are well worth the effort.
I hope this helps!
