Hi Guys,
One of the great joys of this hobby of ours are the suggestions and ideas that come in from collectors around the world which can often lead to some very interesting figures and characters.
Earlier this year I heard from a gentleman in the States who had received a set of our ‘Tutankhamun’ figures and really liked them… so far so good!
Then he told me about a book he had just written about this extraordinary character and adventurer who had taken part in the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and had led a remarkable life… Sir Harry Perry Robinson.
Sir Harry was born in India, educated at Oxford and went to America to seek his fame and fortune.
After a stint in the goldmines of the American West he became a major force in the rapidly expanding railroad industry and helped elect a U.S. President!
Returning to Britain he went into book publishing discovering the American author Jack London.
He also worked as a journalist for the London Times and became a war correspondent during WW1.
After the War he accompanied Lord Carnarvon who bankrolled Howard Carter’s expedition to find the tomb of the boy king Tutankhamun in Egypt’s Valley of The Kings.
Here is a preview of Sir Harry and his camera recording some of the excitement after the discovery of the tomb… Enjoy!
