I had to spend Sunday in Wellington. I took advantage to go up to the new war memorial which is only a 10 minute walk from our city centre apartment.

At the memorial is an exhibition put on by Sir Peter Jackson. Now this guy is a real collector with a flying vintage airforce of 16 working WW1 planes, tanks, guns, uniforms, artillery, colour photographs etc. Also there are two huge dioramas covering NZ troops on the Western Front and at Gallipoli. There is an even bigger collection from Peter at Te Papa (the national museum in Wellington). That will be the next visit.

Its completely free and for WW1 buffs this is a must see if you are visiting NZ. For us toy soldier collectors (and Peter is one of us) then his dioramas use 1/32 scale painted metal toy soldiers made in China and painted by modelers in NZ. The Gallipoli one in particular uses 1,000's of the little guys.

My photo's are not great but thought it might be of some interest.

Gary,
Thanks for posting. Some rich guys play with mega yachts and others with military gear and soldiers. NZ lucky to have Sir Peter both in regards to the Hobbit movie stuff and his obvious love of military history.

Dios great but what impressed me was the horses and gun limber. Wonder how many WWI London buses there are worldwide.
