Just finished this excellent book on the foundation of the US Navy. For those of you who have an interest in the navy, the wars against the pirates of north Africa or the War of 1812, this is your book.
I didn't realize before I read this book how divisive the founding of the navy was to our country. Or the amount of debt that we incurred because of it. The detailed descriptions of the naval battles is first rate. There were so many brave American sailors during that era.
The book mainly deals with the first six frigates of the US Navy. Even though the War of 1812 is covered, the battles on land and the naval battles on the Great Lakes are just summarized. The main focus is on the high seas and the American ports along the eastern seaboard.
