Back in November 2010, I promised to keep you all posted as soon as I found more info about Skorzeny's command car . Well I found it
Source: Battle of the Bulge Then and Now by J.P.Pallud page 128.quote: At a given moment when Skorzeny realised that his plan was doomed. Panzer Brigade150 was turned into a normal battle group. With his American armoured cars, jeeps and trucks, and also some German StuG's and disguised Panthers he went into the attack on the 21 st of dec. There was heavy fighting around the Warche bridge. That same day mid-afternoon he ordered his men to fall back on the crest of the hill south of Malmédy.American shells were now landing thick and fast on the brigade's position and as Skorzeny was making his way to Ligneuville, HQ of the 1 SS Panzer Div. his vehicle was shelled and a piece of schrapnel struck him in the face causing him almost to lose an eye.The tekst under the photographs below is self explanatory and clear . His command car was a JEEP

The tekst says: On january 16 ,1945 the 1st Battalion,117th Regiment of the 30th Infantry Div.retook the little town of Ligneuville, evacuated in haste exactly a month before. This picture was released by the Field Press Censor 3 days later.Incredibly it shows what is very possibly Skorzeny's own jeep abandoned in the village when he pasted through on dec 21 on his way back from the abortive"battle of the Paper Mill" He told how:" .. we just crossed over the small bridge when 3 shells exploded nearby...I jumped out and into the ditch.... Moments later a truck crushed over it .....

Dear "Guy":
Interesting WW2 information!

Pallud's book on the Bulge is indispensable to anyone who wants to study the battle. Should be the first book a Bulge addict should buy, IMO. -- Al
