A new book about the famous 1971 skyjacking in which the hijacker parachuted out of a 727 via the rear staircase at 10,000 feet after receiving $200,000 and was never heard of again. The FBI recorded the serial numbers of the money but none was apparently ever spent. In 1980 some of the deteriorating $20 bills were found along the Columbia River by an 8-year old boy digging in the sand. Otherwise the hijacker has vanished into cultural lore along with Bigfoot and the Grassy Knoll. The most likely scenario is that he did not survive the jump and his body was just never found. Or he survived but became separated from the money during the jump - not unlikely under the windy jump conditions given that he apparently had to tie the hefty money bag to himself (there was no latching device).
