Hi Guys,I have always been interested in having a nice collection of WWII planes in metal form, on a smaller scale... not 1-72 but not the 1-30 scales either, maybe like a 1-35 type or even a little smaller, but don't want to have to pay a ton for each plane, any companies out there that you may know of please let me know, esp. on the variety of planes, be nice to have at least one of all the major planes involved in WWII, thanks for any help...Sammy

Sammy, the best are the Franklin Mint owned Armour series in 1/48 scale. They have a huge variety of die cast aircraft. Go to www.Flyingmule.com to see these and many other die cast makes. the 1/48 scale will offer the largest selection, along with 1/72. -- Al

Franklin Mint is no longer making diecast aircraft. The only company I know of making 1:48 is Hobby Master and they are making very few in that scale. Most of their aircraft are 1:72.

The 1:48 scale seems to be dying out with 1:72 followed by 1:30/1:32 as the main diecast/polystone aircraft. Otherwise it's build your own kits.

Franklin Mint/Armour no longer producing? That was unknown to me. Too bad, they made some fine planes. Many must still be available, though. Hobby Master makes a very nice product. I love their inter-war naval and army planes. -- Al

They are selling their existing inventory but no new product is being added. I have several of the older hard to find models and have sold several of those recently.

I have a number of 1/72 and 1/48 WWII fighters. In 1/48, Hobby Master has some great models and a fair number of choices at a great price, Carousel is rather good but even more limited, Marushin has nice pre-painted easy assembly kits but limited in types and Franklin still has the greatest inventory and the highest price. I actually thing Hobby Master is better if they have what you are looking for. If you want to collect every major aircraft of WWII, 1/72 is the scale that I think you will need to turn too. I agree you should start with the Flying Mule. They have a great selection, pretty good prices and very good search engines for narrowing your selections.

Bill is spot on, more variety to be found when you go 1/72, I have a small collection of 1/72 WWII Warbirds, still get an occasional one. Corgi, Gemini Aces, Hobby Master, one or 2 Matchbox...Dragon also, but these I rate as too frail... Dragon makes great 1/72 tanks, but that's another story...
