Just curious but what do my friends who are interested in naval military history collect?? It would be neat to do a Trafalgar square dio or something similar (if you have a spare room or two in the house).

I remember when I was very young Matchbox used to do a product line called "Sea Kings". I recall they were roughly 1/72 scale. I had a battleship that I used to tote around in my back pocket and play with as a free moment arose (or would use it to beat my little brother mercilessly :D).

Anyhow, just curious what you Naval guys collect.

Hey guys:

I appreciate hearing from our naval friends but this thread is really open to anyone who has an interest in naval military history. I am sorry for not making that more clear. I guess I am just curious if there are "Toy ships" out there similar to toy soldiers, tanks, trucks, etc. Just curious.

Hi Chris

I collect the Neptun 1200 diecast WWII line ... mainly USN and IJN. The Pacific air & sea battles are just the greatest.

I think Wisnton Churchill when asked about the traditions of the Royal Navy said they were Rum Sodomy and the Lash.
I am sure the USN is different
Just kidding

No longer!
Rum has been restricted due to licensing legislation, the lash has been prohibited as it is deemed to be corporal punishment and therefore breaching human rights. Only sodomy is to be openly encouraged as it embraces diversity and freedom of choice.

I have a few pewter 1200 scale and 3000 scale ships, but would really like to have mahogany 1/300 or so Battleships or bigger starting with HMS Hood but have no room:eek:. Did make airfix ships (planes, soldiers and tanks when I was a kid) - I would love to make a navy! K&C Ships?:D

I have several Tom Freeman's ACW Ironclad prints......I own 10mm resin and metal ACW Ironclad models......I make from scratch 15mm ACW Ironclad models, 54mm Sudan gunboats, and will be starting a 54mm ACW Timberclad or Ironclad...Waiting for an ebay purchase of a 21" long USS Cairo ( assembled and painted ) Will see how various size sailors match up to it...Michael

ps.....also love Pirate ships and any age of sail movie, print, or model

Has rum production not been stopped because there some samll European country is claiming a propritery control of the brand name Rum and hence in terms of the Brussles rules it cannot be distributed in the Uk. And to think it was the Brits who taught the world about democracy.

Damian,

I tried researching the issue to establish where the EEC sits on the issue of rum but fell asleep after two paragraphs of legislative ramblings (to all lawyers on the forum, you have my respct for being able to stay awake whilst reading through this type of legislation).

Upon waking, I made swiftly towards the drinks cabinet and poured myself a large glass of Rom, to assist in my recovery from the EEC legislative onslaught my brain had suffered.

I'm now on my 6th large glass of Ram and am starting to feel sleepy again. :)

I originally took this thread literally and didn't reply since I was not a Navy guy. I don't collect any ships (just tanks & AFV since I was in the Army), but I do have a number of naval sets in my collection. Bastion's Boxer Rebellion line has eight-man sailor sets from Britain, Austria, Russia, Germany, Italy, and France. Hiriart has nine-man sets including a Royal Navy set with Churchill, a German U-Boat set with Adm. Doernitz, and a Kriegsmarine set. They also have a WWI Imperial German Navy set in Africa. There are also a couple of Hiriart French Navy sets that I don't have yet.

I am the son of a man who served proudly in the Navy on an LST in WW2. I have a silk Japanese flag along with a couple of saki cups which my father brought out of a cave from Okinawa. They are priceless heirlooms in my opinion.
