So I decided to sign up for email updates from Thomas Gunn. I do not currently have any of their sets but they seemed like they might go well with my K&C collection. Well I got an email this morning about the next releases. So they are all listed as sold out. How is that possible? I see people selling them on ebay. Sometimes they sell for a lot of money....2-3 times or more what they were new. Is that the idea and maybe people are talking about them because you can quickly make some money? I will not support a manufacturer who tries to increase demand for there products by deliberately manipulating the marketplace. If I am wrong I will apologize but I have never had any problem getting a K&C item(new item). I realize that retired items may sell for more but that is usually after a period of time(sometimes years) not over a weekend. Others may disagree and that is there right but I am done with this company.

Hi Andy
All our new products are still available thanks to the increase in production numbers (although the PAK has nearly sold out in both versions) if you look on the website it says 'Available Soon' under the product title.
Its a fine line deciding what numbers to produce, we do not go out of our way to antagonise people but at the same time we also do not want to be left with unsold stock.

I will speak to our web guy and see about deleting the 'Sold Out' label as to be honest its confusing and not needed as we retire all sold out products to the 'Demobbed' page now.
Thanks for your input as it helps us become a better company!

I'm guessing that if TGM thought they could sell more, they would. Let's face it, that is there source of income. Why make xx% profit on 300 sets, if you can double your profits by making 600 sets. As long as they sell.

I suspect it's more a case of trying to keep a regular turn over without having stock left sitting on the shelf for months at a time.
Look at NMA. They produced too much stock as a fledgling company, and several years after they closed down, a lot of the stuff is still sat at dealers unsold. Figarti and Honour Bound have both scaled down numbers to what they feel the market will cope with. Honour Bound set 2 sets at 35 piece runs, and there was an outcry. They boosted the numbers up slightly and are now having stock left sitting.

I'd have thought that the smaller companies don't necessarily have the financial safety net to allow products to linger to long

Just my thoughts,

Simon

It is a balancing act these days for both the manufacturers and collectors. The HB, Figarti and TG production runs are small enough so collectors must decide to buy fairly quickly, and in a few cases, within a day or two. It's nice that TG slightly increased its production run as an adjustment.

But the small runs mean that collectors cannot be assured of getting any particular piece. And with so many good items coming out, the days of buying every AFV that comes out is over for the mainstream AFV collector. It's not only about having more choice, bur it's now about actually having to make choices.

I believe CS is in the same boat

True. But aren't their runs a little bigger at 300 pieces? as opposed to TG runs of 200 or 100, Figarti at 100 and HB at 100 or less. And HB and TG are producing only figures at the moment at a cost below that of AFVs. Compared to Figarti AFVs, the CS runs are much larger. And only a few of the Figarti AFVs have sold out in days. With the larger CS run, there hasn't been the same urgency to buy as with some of the Figarti, TG Tropical or even a few of the K&C pieces that are now in 2nd editions.

I appreciate your response. I apologize if I misunderstood or was confused by your listing on your website. I like the looks of your product and may add some to my collection in the future.

Thanks
Andy
