Soldier F SAS by Shaun Clarke....anyone ever heard of this author or read his books?......I was given this book to read...supposedly about the Malaya Emergency which was declared over in approx 1958.....he got the emergency right...Sungi Supit right,...Ching Ping.....the big bad guy right...but his bit about the RAF losing about 100 personnel in ration airdrops...bull...he got the aircraft right.....M16 assault rife used prior to 1958 ...dont think so... and the Poms using the Aust Owen gun....they used the stern...he got the Bren right but the 3oo rounds magazine...I put that down to a printing mistake (3o)....I waded through the bulldust jungle training but when I read what the weapons issued for the up coming operation were I gave up...and ......a 54 man Sqn tree dropping into the jungle to knock out a food growing area.....not the SAS style....the Poms had plently of Lincon and Canberra bombers at Butterworth that could have blasterd it in a few minutes....I could be wrong.....but if I am going to read bull, I appreciate some of the facts being correct...TomB
