I’d like to share a few photos of a lovely little shop I just happened upon whilst on a family get together this last weekend: “Soldiers of Rye” (In Rye, East Sussex England).
Spent a fascinating hour or so chatting with the proprietor Chris Viner, who is a very entertaining character.
He is an elected member of the International Napoleonic Society - he has some very unique Napoleon Artwork on display above his workstation. (You can see him from the street, painting figures in his shop window.)
I am sure he must be known to quite a few Treefrog members - apparently he sends his soldiers Worldwide.
If ever you happen to find yourself in East Sussex I would recommend you take the time to visit!

Cheers,
Roy

Looks like a quaint little old fashioned shop of a past era. What a little gem to come across. Robin.

Seems like a great shop, a nice place to visit, probably a dying breed, alas. Thanks for the photos.

Hi Roy,

Do you have his internet address by any chance?
Cheers

Hi Luiz,

I only have his email address: soldiers.of.rye@Hotmail.co.uk

(I don't think he has a website.) He did mention he has sent to all the South American countries and every American State except for Alaska and Hawaii!

Hope that helps.

Roy

I have known Chris for over 30 years and he has always been based in Rye (which is about 50 minutes drive away as I also live in East Sussex).

I used to sell my gloss painted figures/sets through his shop for many years and it was quite a good arrangement.

I last saw Chris in July 2014 and glad to see he is still going strong.

You can get a wicked cream tea in Rye as well.

Jeff

Btw, Chris changed his name legally many years ago, so one of his middle names is Napoleon!

Unfortunately I only found out about this show after we had left Rye and got back to Australia in 2010.

We were staying close by in Lydd which was where my wife's grandfather came from and we were meeting up with her long lost cousins. We walked around this historic town but somehow missed this fainting looking shop.

Next time we are in Kent we will sure to drop in.

Thanks for the pictures and the reminder, as see you again at the toy soldier show too, Roy ?.....
