While rumminging around the Regal workshop yesterday I came across these Soldiers of the World ranges hiding in a corner. Molds made and a few examples made and painted, but never put into production. Early World War I Russians and Austrians.

Nice stuff, the Austrians especially are rarely made, great find!

I really like both sets. It's a shame they were never put into production. :(

I wouldn't mind getting hold of a set of each myself.

Congrats Haphazard!

Chuck

Very nice. WW1 Austrians have almost no coverage and the Russians, little more. Those are nice figures. -- lancer

Man those are great! I wish they were produced I would have picked them up. I really like my other sets from Soldiers of the World.

Was actually talking to Ian today about the Austrians and other ranges, and he did say they are planning to put them, the Russians, the French and the Americans into production and add them to their web site and that's also including some never seen WWI Cossacks, as well as the Zulu War range and the Napoleonic range, though he did state that they will just start with the 1812 sets.
I love these French in gasmasks.

Hi Al, website is here http://www.regaltoysoldiers.co.nz/. You won't find a lot of the ranges on there at the moment as they are in the process of updating the site, I know they are adding the Romans and Celts to the site this week and updating the WWI range next week.
If you want to check out a lot of photos of their figures check my blog http://regaltoysoldiers.wordpress.com/
Here's a photo of their WWI US marines

Hello Haphazard,

I picked up a set of 10 WWI Russians years ago at an auction. They came with no box, but are beautiful. I will post some photos later. Are you sure some of these were not released or put into production? Thanks JW

Hi JW,
I'm sure that was what Ian said, maybe he was just talking about the Austrians? I'll have to ask next time i'm up there.

Here are the photos of my Soldiers of the World Russians and some Prussians. Russians from WWI and the Boxer Rebellion, and the Prussian Landwehr are Napoleonic. The WWI Russians must have been two sets. I got them all at an auction, only the Landwehr came in the original box, but no labels on it. All are stamped SW underneath base.

Thank you for posting these pictures, they are looking good. SOW look like new Trophys! :)

I wonder if they are making more WWI Austrians from prototypes?
Al

Al,
Yes they do have a Trophy look to them. If I remember right, there was some criticism about that when they came on the market. All and all some real quality stuff.
JW

Wow! I didn't know S of W made Nap. Prussian Landwehr, they look great. Thanks for posting. :)

I have a good number of S of W sets, all Napoleonic. They all have the rectangular dark green bases. Never seen S of W figure bases like those on your Russians. It does give them a Trophy look.

Hello Haphazard,

Thank you for making this subject interesting and "hot". :) Please keep us posted on the latest S-O-W developments. Could you check with Ian if they have plans to make more 1914 Austrian Infantry sets?

Al

Have had a talk to Ian on the phone, the WWI Russians were produced in very limited numbers while there was only ever a sample set made of the Austrians.
However he did say they are being put into production and will be listed on the web site and are available to order, for those of you in North America that'll be through the Toy Soldier Gallery. He said for the Austrians there are four different sets at this stage, all 1914, Advancing, Charging, Firing and a Grenade/Grenade launcher set. For the Russians, Charging, Firing, Prone and Advancing and that there is also a never before seen WWI Cossack set, wearing overcoats with Lances and swords.
I asked about the Prussian Landwehr too, as I did not know they existed. Again only produced in very limited numbers and then only the one regiment out of the four designed.

Thank you very much for a new info, unfortunately the Toy Soldier Gallery website does not have any pictures or data about sets availability.I have no idea how they manage to do any business on line. :(

I am going to pay a visit to the Stockade Miniatures next week and let you know what I found there :)

Please let us know when pictures of Zulu war sets are available.

Al
