Many of you will be aware that a few collectors in Brisbane have turned their hand to diorama building in the St Joseph's Nudgee College Museum. Based on their efforts we were able to access sixty thousand dollars in grants to build dioramas, launch a children's book, present a museum display and develop a textile artwork inspired by the Overlord embroidery. The guys were guests of honour at the launch on the front lawn of the College. After the diorama opening they were VIP guests at a sound and light show projected on the front of the original building which tells the story of the Old Boys of the College during the wars of the 20th century. There is a particularly rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda at the 36 minute mark. The crowd was in excess of 1000 so as far as toy soldier related gatherings it must be right up there. Fans of Dr Who will get a special surprise - an Old Boy wrote the music!

Yes it was a great evening, it was especially gratifying to see the interest shown in the dioramas, many wonderful comments and several requests to join our merry band. Speaking of Doctor Who our every own Doc (Jack) is gaining another whatever it is to be called Doctor so he is now a Doctor, Doctor :wink2: he and his better half have done a outstanding job over many a month leading up to last nights event..well done both of them :salute:: it must have been akin to herding cats sometimes. A well done as well to the whole crew at Nudgee. Here are just some pics of the night.

As the saying goes it was bigger than Ben Hur.:salute::

A great evening and very good turn out. A mega production combining : the dioramas, the launch of a WW1 related childrens book, some WW1 artworks, and a very clever light show backed up by appropriate music and songs from school choir and musicians. Very clever light work with images on the main school building and a narration by school founder (in a very good Irish voice) who appeared in one of the windows. The effect of a train travelling across the building was particularly good.

As Jack mentioned it was a surprise to learn a Nudgee old boy had created the Dr Who theme. I suppose for the sci fi nerds that might be a more significant achievement than being Chief of Defence Force, a Chief Justice or an Australian Rugby player.

Jack clearly had done a lot of work to put it all together and gave a couple of good speeches. Was a bit touch and go at the start due to some rain (Jack joked that the Christian Brothers prayers concerning rain might not have been heard) which caused issues with lighting guys and musicians. Luckily only lasted a few minutes.

Plenty of people got to see the dioramas and I saw a couple of the WW2 ones for the first time.

Well done Jack and his school for putting on such a good event to commemorate 125 years of the school, 100 years ANZAC commemoration and a fitting tribute to their old boys who have served in the Defence forces.
