Soviet Tanks Graveyard (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't mind betting that there are hundreds of such places dotted around the former Satellite States of the former USSR. I remember walking past one such place in Warsaw (Poland) in the late 1990's - and (peering between corrugated iron sheet fencing) seeing a large number of jumbled up tanks - all quietly rusting in peace there too.

If their performance against the Abrams and Challengers during the various recent Wars in Iraq etc is anything to go by - that's the best place for them!

That is an unbelievable sight. Good riddance! I was a little surprised to to see that some of them still had their reactive armor (explosives) attached which seems like it would be dangerous to be around.

I don't recall ever seeing that many tanks packed so closely in one picture.......I counted approximately 73 in one of the photos! {eek3} Thanks for sharing, the photos were interesting, eerie and sad all in one. Hopefully now that Russia isn't the West's foe anymore they can put their vast economic resources to much better use.

I wonder if they will ever consider selling those to collectors... Business as usual, pretty sure they will end up as scrap for steel mills, sold for their weight. They could make much, much more, selling them to western collectors, and they would empty that yard in the blink of an eye, with a fuller pocket...
