I know that Daruss is a big fan of Italian vehicles and arms so here is one that I found for him.

This is a Fiat-Anseldo CV.33/35 that saw action in the Spanish Civil War. They first arrived in Spain in August 1936. By the second photo you can see how small they were.

Good candidate for John to make :)

Let me know if you would like more photos of this particular tank.

Thanks for the pictures, Brad! I'm interested to know, did Fiat develop this design, or is it a development of some other, contemporary design? I ask, because I just saw a picture while browsing over lunch, of a French armored carrier and trailer, and the design is very similar. It made me wonder if they're related in some way.

Prost!

Brad the tank was I think designed by Ansaldo and jointly built with Fiat.

There was a version in which a wheeled tank trailer carrying flame liquid was carried behind the CV.

PS There are some good photos and color plates in the new Osprey book Spanish Civil War Tanks. New Vanguard - 170. I stumbled on a copy in B&N at lunch this week.

I've picked that up; great timing for Osprey.

However, I received a book from a Spanish publisher called Carros de Combate (tanks), that is probably the definitive book on AFVs during the Civil War although it also covers 1912 - 1936 as well. I believe you can get it on Abe Books as well as from the publisher. If anyone would like more info about how to get it, please let me know.

If you're interested in the CV 33/35, I highly recommend "Carro L3 Carri Veloci, Carri Leggeri, derivati". It was published by the Trentino modelling group. 135 pages, loaded with b/w photos of the L3 in service from Ethiopia, Spain and WWII. It also has numerous scale drawings.

It was nicknamed "Scatola di Sardine " "Sardines tin" by the italian tankmen, for obvious motives..i reccomend the book "Iron Hulls Iron Hearts" by Ian Walker, for a story of the major tank battles of the italian armoured division..our tankmen needed great courage to fight in this traps...

The new Osprey book featurs a PzI with # 424. So it's a good bet John is using that. The other prominant tank is the T-26.
