I have had this figure since 1993. It was presented in my collection thread about a week back. Time to refurbish the piece again. The basic structure looks good and I'll just improve on the painting.

I prised the piece off its base and have started to repaint the blue coat.

That's a nice figure, Vic! Is that a New Hope Designs "Men at Arms" figure? It reminds me of the illustrations in the Osprey "Army of Louis XVI" books.

I don't think you need to redo it at all, but I know your restless painting habits :D

Prost!

Hi Brad,

This was a conversion with Historex and Airfix parts. I find it quite fun to rework earlier pieces. At least, I get to paint my own unique figure rather than a standard commercial figure.

You meant the Louis XV osprey series by E lLeliepvre, don't you?

Yes, thanks, I always get my Louies confused. That's one of the better sets of Ospreys, I think. Like the series on the Prussian and Austrian armies, they follow a logical breakdown--here are all the infantry regiments, here are all the cavalry regiments, here are the technical and specialist arms, etc. The worst of the series on the 18th century armies is "King George's Army." I found them hard to follow, compared to the others. I really didn't get a good, clear reference on the British army, till I got Franklin's book.

Prost!

Hi Brad,

I loved the Osprey Louis XV series (5 booklets) because it was illustrated by E Leliepvre. His drawings are always so lively. There was only one booklet on Louis XIV's troops to my knowledge. I didn't like the drawings.

I have two of Carl Franklin's books on Rocket troops and British Artillery. Very nice clean schematics. However, I understand that his books on the British Army have some errors in the lacings and colours.

More progress on the painting. I use two different blues - for the coat (Schveningen blue) and the drum (Ultramarine) to create some contrast. Shading is enhanced with purple glaze, a translucent colour.

Nice progress, Vic! I like your glazing technique. You're getting a rich color.

Prost!

Hi Brad,

Thanks. You make it sound as if I really knew what I was doing...:)
Just added a bright red to the cuffs and turnbacks. Will be highlighting and shading these later.

Painted the leather bag. Also painted a dark colour all over the drum ropes.

Painted the drum ropes, will need to clean up. Also repainting the lace. The figure has been mounted on a fancy new base.

I removed the figure from the base as I may add another element to the base. I finished painting the lace on the figure.
