If that picture were of Minnesota, those guys would not be sitting on chairs. They would join the other crazies and be on their snow mobiles jumping the last bit of open water between ice flows. We lose about five or six of 'em every year. Some how they think that they will manage to survive the cold water long enough to get out; as if their muscles won't stop working in about 45 seconds.

We just had three of five teenagers in a fishing boat drown in Northern Minnesota when the boat overturned in open water. The three of them did not last long enough for a fellow to get his boat from shore and out to them; he took about 3 or 4 minutes from seeing them overturn to being on site in his boat; he did manage to get two onboard. Really sad when it happens like that.

That is really a shame. When I was young 16 or 17 I was a surfer on the

Jersey shore. This was back in 1966 when it was just begining. The water

off the coast is fairly cold but not as bad as that. One december, we went

surfing. We had full wetsuits, gloves, and boots, hoods with vaseline on our faces. We never

once thought it could kill us!

We had a big bonfire on the beach, the wetsuits trap a layer of water next

to your skin which keeps you warm. However when you sit up, out in the lineup the

water runs out of the suit to your waste, and the next time you go in its

murder!

When I read about people sucoming to the cold it makes me realize we were

nuts!!

Man o man thats a beautiful picture of the Arizona Desert! Where'd you snap that pic up by Scottsdale or in the hills near Tucson? I have a place down in Sierra Vista that gets some snow but its usually gone in a day or two. Still its a far cry from those NE winters of my youth.

This was first week of April. This was the Cave Creek /Carefree Area (Phoenix metro - North...about 20 minutes drive from downtown). Scottsdale foothills were snow capped. Northern AZ normally get snow by Flagstaff as far South as Prescott. Last April, the CA storm was so huge the outer fringes of the storm went as far south as Cave Creek. The snow lasted for 4 days.

Which way to the beach?

I surely miss the Jersey Shore (LBI in particular). We are 3 hours away to Rocky Point (Mexico) via Tucson, 5 hours to San Diego, CA for the nearest beaches. But lakes are in abundance, i.e. Lake Pleasant (about 5 mins from home), Lake Havasu (2 hours drive). Skiing is Winter is Flagstaff (1.5 hrs drive North of Phoenix). And of course we have Sedona and the Grand Canyon to marvel at. Sure a lot different than when I was in Bridgewater, NJ...things may have been different if AT&T Corp. was not sold to SBC (which is now AT&T Inc.). But the bottom line is, my NJ house paid off the house here in Peoria, AZ (bigger & better w/ a pool). Now I can spend for my KC addiction instead of a monthly mortgage (my wife is starting to believe that this was the motivation in the decision to move to AZ).

Well best of luck to you! Glad there is pleanty of $$$ for King & Country!

I sort of did the reverse retirment thing, I left NJ in 1976 for a life at the

beach in Florida.......it was not the same!

So now I'm headed back (looking for the house on LBI as a matter of fact)

Should be basking my toes in LBI sand within a year.
