Hi guys,

one of these figures, a Grenadier of the First Regiment of Foot Guards 1735 as a Buckinham Pewter casting, has been passed onto me to give it a 'lick of paint'.

The guy who obtained it on EBay said he paid $7 for it :( :( what a bargain !!!!

Anyway, I'll keep you posted with some progress shots, just to make sure I'm getting it right, like the originals.

Thanks Bernard for you catalog of photos of these wondeful figures on your profile page, thats a great resource for us all.

OK, I know that this should be in the Painting Section, but here is the finished figures....

Any comments???

Nicely done, John! As a casting from Buckingham Pewter, was the figure coated or otherwise treated in any way, eg, was it antiqued, so that you had to take extra or unusual steps to prime it? Or did it have just the bare surface?

There are always a good number of these up on eBay at any given time, both finished and in kit form. It's a good place to start for someone looking to collect them.

Prost!

Yo John, excellent mate, but then I didn't expect any less than excellent from yourself;). To answer Brad's question as well, this type of Buckingham Pewter model was never intended to be painted. They were high grade Pewter
models and Hallmarked inside the base. They were issued to attract the serving regiments IE: you can find a later period model on as many as five different titled regimental bases, a very clever marketing move one model and its sold to five different regiments. The odd Buckingham pewter model was painted but not on this type of base shown IE: Irish Guards with Mascot and all the 90mm Mounted are painted Buckingham Pewter. Not surprised the guy only paid a low price, they are not popular with the Stadden collector, even though they are the same model as the painted catalogue issued Chas Stadden models with title base. But as Brad says a good way to get an excellent model and paint them yourself.
BTW six on the way over to be painted:eek: lol. A real excellent job John:D.
Bernard.
