Straightening Bent Resin Parts (1 Viewer)

I have a couple figures where the resin swords are quite bent. I tried using a heat gun but even on 300 degrees the resin didn’t soften at all. Do I need to go even hotter? Any suggestions?

Difficult. Chop off and replace. Spare plastic or metal from Historex or Tradition of London. Buy a whole sword and file down the hilt leaving a dowel to insert into a pre drilled hole in the existing sword.

Not all resins are alike and reacts differently under different conditions. Most likely the type of resin used is either
Phenolic, Melamine, or Formaldehyde resin.

Melamine, and formaldehyde resins are thermosetting adhesives that form strong bonds and have good resistance to high temperatures, and therefore as you were heating it, the more it hardens. These resins are thermoset materials, they require heat or heat and pressure to cure and to form a secure bond.

BEFORE CHOPPING THE PART... try boiling water at 200[SUP]o[/SUP]F. Soak bent part for 20 minutes. It will be hot to the touch so get 2 popsicle sticks to hold the bent part for 5 minutes.
