Hello,

I can't get rid of my Britains/ertl British Paratrooper "Bren" Gun (Vickers) team, so I am going to convert them to mercenaries in the Congo. I need to remove the helmeted heads and replace them with heads that are wearing berets. Can anyone suggest a vendor that would sell comprobable heads sporting berets?

Thanks
Benjamin

Have you thought about converting them yourself? A beret is a relatively simple conversion, just removing the brim and crown of the helmet, and adding a beret from putty.

I don't know of anyone who makes heads with berets, not in metal, at least. There might be heads with berets in 1/32 available from manufacturers who supply the scale modeling part of our hobby, such as Hornet. Or again, you might get some replacement heads like those from Hornet, modify them to have berets, and use those, or even make a mold and cast a couple in resin, depending on how many you need.

Hope that helps, prosit!

Hi Brad,
Good idea. I will probably give it a shot.
Thanks

It depends on what size your figures are, but if they are true 54mm scale (1/32) then a couple of UK makers could have spares.

I have seen in Nottingham at RP World Models, who used to make Britains before it was taken over, had heaps of spares from the Britains range.

Also Alexanders Toy Soldiers make some 1960's soldiers in battledress with berets and you could also try Dorset Soldiers who also have a few berets listed in their casting list.

Agreed John - all three are good sources. Just one amendment to make - it's NOW - Dorset Model Soldiers. If you send to the old e-mail address - nothing gets there any longer. jb

Hi John: just a bit more info for you.

www.dorsetmodelsoldiers.com - is the web-site

to order; sales@dorsetmodelsoldiers.com

It's now a partnership between two guys called Peter and Andy. They are both nice guys, but pretty new to the TS business, so you have to use the castings list numbers to order - and be quite specific. Snag is that Giles knew his stock-list so well, that you didn't have to do that in an e-mail. They are also not there all of the time. So..............you need to be patient....;);) jb

They work out of the building "up on top" where the casting is still done.

Giles still has his shop half way up to the top, in Fortunswell, but he doesn't do the casting any more. He still buys and sells TS from his shop there, and indeed is a customer of the new owners for castings! He still buys and sells, repairs and paints from the shop with Dave - but they are both part-timers too now. Best time for him is in the mornings. His new e-mail address is:

gilesbrown642@gmail.com

Best - jb
