Fellow collectors,

What does one do when the sun changes the pattern and colour of our beloved sets?? I saw that the sun "brightens" up the colour of our interior when the sun comes through the window.. What could I do to prevent that from happening? What do my fellow collectors do in that case?
I don't want, as any of you, that the shade of my vehicles and figures start to pale of and I am desperate so I can really use your help.

Best regards,

Ian

There is an anti-UV film (I think 3M makes it) that can be attached to windows. I have it in my living room window to protect an art print I have there. For my toy soldier displays I keep them in the dark and use display lights except for the occasional photograph where I want direct sunlight.

Ditto here on keeping them out of direct sunlight. Heck, EVERYTHING needs to be kept out of direct sunlight.:D -- lancer

i use this type of case.

for vehicles i had to remove the 3 tier stand.

its not that cheap, but had to use them since singapore is generally very dusty.

my family still holds the vetoing power, and it looks like i have to bribe them for my display cabinet.

I agree with everyone who is saying to keep them out of direct sunlight. Even if you use something that blocks UV, light is still light. That simple fact that it sunlight illuminates in the manner that it does gives it a propensity to fade just about anything no matter what protection is provided.

I have Civil War relics along with my soldiers, so you can bet they don't get direct sunlight much. I keep my blinds closed a lot. I put the cloth and leather relics in a deeper, darker case. I only turn on my display lights in the curio briefly when people come over.

I agree with all the caution......but you should still enjoy your items. I had a fairly nice comic book collection that I kept in Mylar bags in a darken cool room for 20 years. Once day I went to a show and when I took the books out of their bags they had all yellowed and become brittle!

So enjoy your items, you really never know whats going to happen!

Enjoy your items is the way to go. Otherwise why bother.

This is not an uncommon problem with comic books. It is a hobby with a built in lifespan in that most comic paper is highly acidic, and short of spending a fortune having them professionaly de-acidified, they are going to go yellow and brittle at some not too distant point. I have quite a few of them myself and will probably sell them before too much longer. TS are a much better hobby for long lasting pleasure and passing on to future generations.:D -- lancer

I have UV glass doors on my displaycases and I keep the cases out of direct sunlight. I have them setup, so I can see my collections while watching TV or on the computer.

Boy are you telling me, I had a run of Fantastic Four 4-50 Spiderman 3-30
Hulk 1-10 Iron Man 1-10 early Showcase, Atom, Flash, Green Lantern quite a nice collection. I used to do the shows at the old McAlpine Hotel in NYC back in the late 1970's.

I sold off a really large collection I got for a few hundred and turned them into about 200 classic issues, then I moved into trains and put them all on a nice rack for the next 20 years.

Thats a really nice idea! I sit back in the corner of my Den with displays all around me. Its nice and quiet and when you look up from the computer screen there are lots of nice things to look at.

Today was a bang up day in the market......so I'm all giddy!:D

i gave an autogrphed picture of mickey mantle and yogi berra to one of my salesman and the knucklehead kept it on his desk until the autographs all but disappeared. what a shame
