Hi guys,

Can people recommend to me suppliers of castings of 54mm models from the 19th century Victorian wars?

I paint Anglo Sudan, Anglo Zulu and Boer war and would love to get some different poses and I just want to know who is out there?

Below find the names of several British Toy Soldier Companies that will sell you castings. Some don't do figures for Victorian era - but most do. I have included them all so that you can check them out online. Some have a better web-site than others - but they all do have one. One has become a tad expensive for unpainted figures, for me - so check 'em all out and choose which ones to buy from, to suit you. I have purchsed from them all, online - and never had a major problem with Standard Postal delivery.

Best of luck, jb

We supply castings for Sudan, Zulu and Boer Wars from the All the Queens Men ranges and some of our own additions:

https://imperialminiatures.co.uk/

Not all packs are on the website yet, but the price list will give you an idea of everything we have and I can sort out castings of anything you want.

Prices start from £5.50 a foot figure and £14.50 for mounted.

Many thanks

Mike

Also, Forty Third Ltd, http://www.forty-third.co.uk/index.htm, has the old Phoenix 54mm ranges. John Eden also has some Phoenix, as well as some of Russell Gammage's Rose Miniatures line: http://johnedenstudios.com/

Fusilier Miniatures is another source for castings: http://fusilier-miniatures.com/ If I am not mistaken, Fusilier is owned by the same folks who also produce Tommy Atkins. Tommy Atkins is another source, though I think they only produce civilians from the period you're looking for, not military.

Imrie-Risley also produce a series of British figures from the 19th century. They include an Indian Army cavalryman, a 17th Lancer, several figures from Rorke's Drift, and the Black Watch in Egypt. Here is that page in their catalog: https://www.imrierisleyminiatures.com/19th-early-20th-century/british-19th-century/

If you might also use Britians castings, there are vendors licensed to sell replacement parts, enough to make complete figures (solid-cast). Ron Ruddell of London Bridge Collector's Toys is a long-time dealer and if you're in the US, I recommend having a look at his website and catalog, https://londonbridgecollectorstoys.com/

Hope that helps!

Prost!
Brad

A postscript-
I see that you're in the UK, so it might not be advantageous for you to look at London Bridge. But I think there are dealers in the UK, licensed to sell Britains replacement parts. John (johnnybach) is probably better able to speak to that.

Thank you guys for your responses and I will look at all the websites. I'm looking for a load of different poses from different manufacturers that I can paint in my own style.

Hi Emmerson,

I am very happy to see that we share interest on the same time period!
Of the lists mentioned, I would focus on:
Asset - Huge selection - Continental Regiments and Overseas also. Mainly garrison duty and parade. Does have nice offers in Victorian mounted options! http://www.assetminiatures.co.uk/index2.html
Tradition of London - moderate selection, mainly Zulu War preiod, but also some nice Sudan Expedition sets... https://www.traditionoflondonshop.com/
Rose Miniatures - A few Zulu War period and a nice Indian Mountain gun with garrison...
RP World Models - especially if you like artillery pieces... http://www.rpworldmodels.net/
From the past ( and sometimes still available at fairs and e bay ) Stadden sets, are the best.
If you fancy 54mm Stadden Scottish Regiment on the march....drop me a PV.
Check in the Forum the group called Victorian Little Wars for some ideas.....here is the link

Thanks Luiz that is great info you have given me. I will be looking into chas stadden figures so I may give you a shout. Is Chas Stadden stopped now? Does anyone have the molds and sell casts?

Yes, and No.

Charles himself passed away in 2002, if I am not mistaken. Some of the kits Tradition of London are derived from his original designs, while others are sculpted by other artists, such as David Scheinmann. Stadden's custom figures, the 56mm figures, are no longer produced. I contacted Magnus Lindstrom at Tradition to ask about the custom line, and he confirmed that the old molds no longer exist. So we're directed to the second-hand market for those figures.

Prost!

Too bad that Stadden is no longer around, and his 54mm sets are getting rarer by the hour....Some tend to come up at fairs and the e-bay .... But then you are limited to what there is on offer by the secondary market...
Usually, you see a lot of Napoleonics for sale, while the Victorian range is one of those more rarer appearances.....But they do show up! The others I mentioned are just as good...
Here are some pics...
Indian mountain gun and garrison - Rose Miniatures

A few Stadden sets related to Home guard, tend to show up now and again in the market, what for me makes it more complex is that: (1) I am not in the UK to frequently visit fairs and scout around, (2) I focus on the Sudan /Northwestern Indian campaigns..further making my picking more limited.
Having said that, I do have some Zulu and other period sets...

If you like artillery, the best combination I have come up for the Victorian period has been to match artillery pieces from RP World with Little Legion garrisons ( the guys ate RP World will sell just the guns and the guys at Little Legion just the garrisons )..I say that because RP World does great artillery pieces with details and all..but the gunners are not as good ( lacks a bit in style ) , now Little Legion does great garrisons - the original molds are by the late Alan Calton ( as are Assets ) so they are full of life...Were as the Little Legion artillery piece although nice...lacks a lot of detail...So the marriage of the two have come up very nicely..see here some examples.

The two mounted pictures represent the two sets offered by http://www.forty-third.co.uk/index.htm, as the old Phoenix 54mm range.
Cheers

They look great! They do go together and the mounted sets look very nice. Do little legion do casts? Do you have a link for them?

Your website is great and I have seen your Guards Camel Corps in the Sudan part. Don't you have any more Camel Corps models and do you have pictures of your Sudanese and Egyptian infrantry?

There are just the mounted and dismounted sets (TB250 and TB300) for the Camel Corps.

I have remastered all the Sudan range but not yet had chance to paint any up as examples and don't have any oriignal AQM painted examples or photos from AQM. I can send you some photos of the castings if that is any help? They are next on my list after the rest of the Agincourt range to get painted examples done and the castings up on the website.

thanks

Mike
