Sydney - Sculpture by the Sea - Toy Soldier (1 Viewer)

I came across these photos of a 1:1 scale Army Man - sculpted like a toy soldier - with a twist.. Thought you might appreciate this.

Sculpture by the Sea is an annual art event in the beach suburbs not far from where I live. About 10 mins drive.

Myself and the missus went for a look today but went too late and couldn't get a park within a kilometre of Tamarama Beach.

Will go again tomorrow (Sunday) morning a little earlier and check it out. Especially the big toy soldier.

Heading south from Bondi the beaches run like this:

1. Bondi Beach
2. McKenzies Bay (only small)
3. Tamarama Beach (where the toy soldier is)
4. Bronte Beach
5. Clovelly Beach &
6. Coogee Beach (that's where we are based)

Cool idea. That said, I want to get out a Stanley knife and start hacking off the flash. Then get a big bucket of hot and cold water and sort that bayonet out.

If they'd all been this size when i was a kid i would never lost so many of them in the woods!..But then again imagine the size the Airfix boxes would have been!!

Here I am Jim. Please excuse the USC Trojans t-shirt. I bought it at Foot Locker 'cause it looked cool. Cheers Pete.

What a neat idea for a sculpture! I like how the sculptor included the mold flash along the seam lines.

Prost!

Great photo Pete, that's cool that you're able to see the sculpture - and all of them, for that matter..

Thx,

Jim

Thanks for the photos. I also enjoyed reading the comments on the blog you've linked us to. It seems the commenters are more familiar with fine art and less so with the basic green plastic army man. The circular flash mark on the back and the base drew some humorous comments....a wave board indeed, sir. :D

There he is, sitting on the beach in the sun with girls in bikinis strolling past. So why is he looking so miserable? Most soldiers in that situation would have a big cheesy grin on their faces!

Well he did get a kiss from Mrs.General.

Too true, interesting idea but you would think the artists would have been a bit more fastidious. My first thought was that no wonder he looks so forlorn with that hole in his back.;):D
