What was this symposium that has been talked about, can someone give the details?
How come I wasn,t invited?
Gary

Dear Gary, first, on behalf of Hans Hedrich, Lawrence Lo and myself, the co-sponsors, I am sorry you were not invited to the first annual New York Symposium that occurred March 11th-13th of this year. The reason: we did not know you. We invited more than 35 collectors, and 21 attended the main event (Andy's talk on the history of King & Country). What was the symposium? It was a get together for collectors only (we didn't invite dealers). There was no charge to attend, the sponsors defrayed the cost for everyone. It began Friday night with an opening dinner at a private club in New York City of which I am fortunate enough to be a member. Satuday from noon to 4:00 p.m. was the main event, a meet and greet with Andy Nielson at Classic Toys, the NYC K&C dealer, with much of my and Lawrence's collections of the original K&C WWII and Vietnam figures, vehicles and dioramas on display. Then, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. was a cocktail party at my apartment, with the remainder of my collection of very early K&C glossy figures, diorama materials and 35 wood warbirds on display, and a Q&A session with Andy about the earlier stuff, and his plans for the future of K&C. Then dinner in a private room at Lawrence Lo's very upscale restaurant, Tse Yang. Finally, we attended the Toy Soldier show across the river in New Jersey Sunday morning. It was a huge hit, and we will be sponsoring it again next year, as Andy indicated he would come again. Rest assured that when the time comes for invitations to go out, I will be using this forum to add to our guest list. Regards, Louis

I say we all get together for dinner or something Saturday night before the OTSN Chicago show for those of you planning to attend. Invite Andy to come and have dinner with the "K&C Fanatics" :D

Brian, excellent idea.
Of course Andy is a very popular man at OTSN, might be hard to corral him.

Andy is a smart man...I think spending time with some of his biggest collectors would appeal to him. Heck I'm for inviting the dealers along too...make them compete for our hard earned dollars! :D

I am planning to go for the first time so any info that I need to know is appreciated.

Otsn

Get there early, like two days before the show and bring lots of money. My first year I went I had to limit myself to what I could bring on the plane.Last year Gary directed me to a post office thats close by and I shipped everything home. That only meant that I was limited to money :D .I didn't even stick around for the show last year.Room trading is where its at,plus you get to meet everyone, dealers and board members. Its the best show to attend for me.The downside is the way the room trading is set up.You feel like a rat in a maze.Thats no joke.
Here is some info about OTSN

This will be my 15th consecutive year, it is the highlite of my year.
As Fullyauto stated get there at least by Friday, it,s the room trading thats the best part.
I am able to drive there so what I buy is not a problem. But bring all the money you can, you will have no problem spending it.
It,s still 5 months away so we will have plenty of time to discuss it, but I would make your room reservations now. If the Hyatt is filled try the Drury Inn or LaQuinta, they are cheaper, provide breakfast and are within walking distance, about 6 blocks.

I've never been but I've heard that if you don't get there a few days before you'll miss out on the good stuff because so much room trading is going on. I had one dealer tell me today that by the time the actual show started, he had sold everything.

Greetings , I met Andy at the Jersey show the day after the symposium. It was a pleasure speaking with him & I was very impressed with the way in which he interacted with collectors. On a side note it was interesting hearing about his time with the Hong Kong Police (from one "bobby" to another). If you should decide to have the dinner party & symposium again I would very much like to atend (we have 4 K & C collectors in our group). My email is josephbiasco@yahoo.com & cellular is 201-835-6111. Thanks again & I look forward to attending.

Dear Desert Fox,

I will be posting an invite through the forum to you and all of the other K&C buffs when we set up for next year. The invite will probably go out in January, 2006, for the Symposium to be held the weekend after the West Coaster, so Andy will be in the U.S. and can attend. Hope to see you there!

Regards,

Louis
