Ok,

I was cruising around on eBay Germany/Austria and I came across an auction that included the following:

A Stug commanders photo albums. This guy was killed in Normandy in 1944 and the men who served with him put together 3 photo albums of their campaigns with about 200 photos for his widow.

The auction listing had a lot of photos. I tried to win it at 1400 euros but it went for 3700 - I suppose about $4000 USD.

Anyways, I downloaded the scans which include some very interesting photos. It is in a word document.

I might post it to my website in a separte directory and make it available for download. I just want to get an idea of interest before I do it. I was thinking that it could be excellent material for research and ideas for Andy or Britians.

What do y'all think?

Do not stop at go. Proceed directly to your server and download. PLEASE :)

Hi all,

This one reminded me of a book I picked up a while ago. 7000 Kilometers in a Sturmgeschutz. It is a great photo source from soldier named Heinrich Engel who was also a recipent of the Knights Cross. It is a fantastic source for photos of everyday life in the army.

Because of the file size, it will only be available for one day.

I would hope that, if you want to share it with people you know, you would put it in a zip file and email it to friends and such.

It is a large file and I don't want to take bandwidth away from the rest of my site.

I also host my ebay photos on my site and this caused my site to go down for a while yesterday when my bandwidth limit was exceeded.

When I get the file posted I will post all over this forum to alert people on this forum only and pull it down in one day.

Again, I need to ask folks to be considerate because it will deplete a chunk of my bandwidth for the month.

This file is 8.2 meg - it will take time to load.

Just looked at this thread. Is it possible to just print out the photos from the ebay auction link, as opposed to downloading it?

Can you also give us the link.

Thanks.

Re: Stug Commanders Widows personal photo albums

I couldn't find the link but I am tranfering the word document into a webpage and will post as an html document.

Printing this thing out would take a loooonnnngggg time. I was thinking of making it available on cd but how would I distribute it? I don't wnat to charge for this and I reallywant Andy to see it. Maybe he could get some ideas for future production.

Well, this all looks pretty fantastic I can tell you so we owe a big vote of thanks to Gideon. I have access to a good color printer so I am going to try to print it out later and if it comes out will make it available to other as copies.

I really wish I could find a better place to host the file. It is huge but worth seeing.

Thank you Gideon for the posting. The pictures are really amazing and show the life of the regular ground pounders in Germany. Thank you. Michael :)

Re: Stug Commanders Widows personal photo albums

In looking at where Gerhard Pazur was killed, Brecey, which is about 16 km or so east of Avranches in the Lower Normandy region, it seems that his unit (which from what I've read was an independent stug brigade) was caught up in Operation Cobra. It is interesting that the unit (since they had commanders through the end of the war) managed to survive Falaise. I'm not sure what an "independent" brigade means but a few web sites have characterized the brigade as such.

I had to pull the document down. I hope all who wanted to see it got it.
