TCM is running their annual 31 Days of Oscar, currently in its 10th day. Here is the schedule, http://31days.tcm.com

I had forgotten about it until I accidentally stumbled onto Room With a View, which I had never seen. Wonderful movie.

Today, among other highlights are Moulin Rouge (the original), Barry Lyndon and Julius Caesar. I have never seen Barry Lyndon so that is one definitely want to see.

Brad, Barry Lyndon is a delight. Kubrick shot it all using natural light, and while O'Neal may seem like he was miscast, he actually pulls off his lead part quite well. The brief military actions are very well done, as well. I'd love to watch it again but I won't this time around because of the starting time. Enjoy it. :smile2: -- Al

Thanks Al. I just realized it starts at 1230 so I guess I will probably record it.

Did you ever see Room with a View? At first, I thought it was a very strange movie -- and in some ways it is peculiar -- and was going to turn it off but then it began to grow on me and by the end liked it quite a bit.

I haven't seen it. Knew it was on last night but had scheduling conflict. I'll catch it at some point. -- Al

The TMC version of Barry Lyndon is the old Warner cut in need of restoration--wrong aspect, bad sound and coloring. Although TMC says HD, it is not. I suppose if you have a small TV it doesn't matter.
I avoid TMC.

The Restored Criterion Version is so much better. As is the version on VUDU.

Tom Jones is another set to be released 27 February. Love the oyster scene. LOL

Earlier today I caught "Knights of the Round Table" with Robert Taylor. I like his Ivanhoe better. Looking ahead, I see some great pics, but not necessarily great times. At the God awful time of 6am on Monday is "The Informer" with Victor McLaglen, a fav of mine. It's generally a good month for TCM movies if you can handle the time schedules.

The Informer is a classic. Ford and McLaglen made some good shows together. -- Al

Today, Sunday, on TCM at 3:30 EST, is the brilliant Orson Welles 'The Third Man', followed by 'In Cold Blood' @ 5:30, and 'Grapes of Wrath' @ 8 pm. Not too shabby a line-up. -- Al

Just watched The Little Foxes, a movie about greed. A fine movie. Bette Davis was evil personified. The movie received 9 nominations but earned nary a one. It had some tough competition such as Citizen Kane.

Turner Classics is always good, but I really love Oscar month! I caught "The Best Years of Our Lives" again the other night, great movie, all around.

Prost!

Brad...
I want to thank you for posting this...
I recorded about 10 movies that I have watched...
Marty...one of my all time favorites...
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...Burl Ives nailed this role...he was so underrated as an actor...
if you ever get a chance...
watch "Let No Man Write My Epitaph"...
From Here To Eternity...
Casablanca...
A Street Car Named Desire...
Bridge over River Kwai...
Sgt. York...
and so on...
thank you!

Thanks Mike. I've taped movies that I haven't seen before. Although this wasn't on the 31 Days, one watching now is The Razor's Edge with Errol Flynn, based on the Somerset Maugham book. It received several nominations although only Anne Baxter won for Supporting Actress.

Wasn't that the same year How green was my valley won the Oscar for best picture?

Yes it was. HGWMV cleaned up at the awards, taking 5 Oscars out of 10 nominations. One of my favorite films. -- Al

I have to admit to never seeing it. I will have to be on the watch for it.

One of my favorite movies My Fair Lady is on now, with one of my favorite actresses, Audrey Hepburn.

I get their weekly lot of like 50+ free on Demand movies with Infinity. Love them. My only complaint: Why not have at least a few films from every genre each week? A couple sci fi, horror, historical, etc? Sometimes, its like 30 classic horror, then the next week, its 50 movies with that lady from "The Death Valley" TV show ("Nick, Heath, Jarred! There's a fire in the barn!"), not the hot blonde, the old one, who evidently was ALWAYS old. TCM movies from the 30's and 40's, and she still looks 70. She's like Angela Lansbury, always looks 70 years old

I like that nerdy dude with the glasses, who does a little narrative before some movies.

Anyhoo, I am NOT watching the Oscars. Goes against my core. But I hope that "Creature From The Blue Lagoon" movie wins every category.
