The June Toy Soldier show will be here before I know it so I am starting to plan the terrain boards to go on the stand for the show. I did two 2'x2' last time but I want to do a bigger number of smaller boards this time.

As we sell John Jenkins FIW I need to do some of them that are relevant to that period but I want to do at least one that belongs to a different period.

I have a few ideas but I would love to hear other ideas and suggestions.
The plan would be to take on at least one of these ideas and if I am organised enough do a 'how to' piece with lots of photos that I can post when finished.

My ideas include a front of a Southern plantation house (just a small part) (inspired by a conversation I had with a customer), a water scene (to display the canoes in Johns range), seige works set in the FIW, something Crimean to go along with Kand C release, part of a block house, a front of a historical building such as Dunker Church or Meades HQ at Gettysberg, a tilting/jousting arena.... the list goes on.

The more suggestions from everyone the better

Guys,
Take David up on this, he does superb work, you have to see his 25mm F & I War fort he did to believe it.

He is extremely well known in wargaming circles for producing top shelf terrain; he has done some scratch builts for me that are among the best pieces in my collection. He has also done entire layouts for other customers, including a superb 20mm Omaha Beach layout.

Fire away with your suggestions, he is all ears. He and I are trying to work out a distribution plan in the states for his items as well.............

First off, I second everything George said about David's modelling work at TM Terrain. Phenomenal stuff he's made for myself and others over the years, most particularly a series of Arnhem 28mm buildings that if anyone is interested in seeing I can post some images of.

David, as for your request for what to make for the June toy soldier show, don't you carry a range called First Legion too? :D Call me sensitive, but I'm i'm feeling a bit slighted! Maybe you could make something with our new releases/ranges that we have coming that of course we can't discuss here on the forum because they're not yet announced! You'll certainly have plenty to work with by then, so please plan accordingly as my feelings will be hurt if there isn't at least one First Legion dio on your tables!!!! :)

Regards,

Matt

Matt,

Just to help David out, what sort of terrain piece would you be looking for. Obviously, you don't want to give the game away, but what sort of time period should he concentrate on?
I'm purely thinking of making it easier for David, and not in any way, shape or form trying to pry. :D:rolleyes:;)

Well, since you're just trying to help David out, it would be for our upcoming __redacted___ Range due out in late April early May. Or for our Napoleonic __redacted__ coming out in late May.

Cool!
I haven't got any redacted sets as yet, but look forward to starting this often misunderstood and overlooked era. :D:p

Hi guys

Just a quick comment on the original request- the post was dated 2007. I put it up a few days after our first London show in March that year. I didn't mention you Matt cos First Legion was yet to be born:). I wouldn't dream of not mentioning you now. I am not thinking about the June show until after the March show!

Saying all that, I am always looking for ideas for display pieces for the show.
This March show should see a church (this is a commission but he is happy for me to display it until he picks it up) as well as more of the WW2 buildings- they all sold last time.
As far as First Legion displays.... let me think..... British Guards at Waterloo.... a chateux/farm comes to mind. Watch this space

David

By way of validation, David has made a number of dioramas for the Figarti displays at the London Shows and whatever idea I come up with he takes the thought away and just seems to amplify the impact.
You may recall the Hartenstein Hotel at the March show last year which David made for me, which was awesome.
I'll see if I can post some more up to date photos for everyone.
All in all I can thoroughly recommend David's work.
He even puts up with those strange ramblings which we all have and manages to interpret what's required!!
Regards
Clive

WHOOPS...you know, I was wondering about why the post said "June Show" and not "March Show"...I knew you still loved us David! :D

Thanks Clive

Pictures would be great of the hotel. I have some but with hardly any figures on it so looks OK but will come alive surrounded by British paras. I can't wait!

David

Would love to see some release to place my KC Crimea on...

And some pictures of your hartenstein hotel please

Thanks

JPB

Here are some pics of the hotel- in WW2 mode and a little Napoleonic just to change the mood!:

(figures are CS WW2 and First Legion Napoleonic)

The windows and and other details are resin so if you want to have a go then you know where to find them.

Well David, that would be a "barn burner", if you'll pardon my historical pun.;):D I hope you go through with that one and have more than one available.

I will only do one for the display but I can always make another if you like- maybe a different part or just buy the one off the stand if you can't wait!
