This is my first thread - so here goes.... I have just been reading the threads on some of the other manufacturers, including about NMA.
I was never interested in toy soldiers until I saw K&K - I thought they were daft despite being fascinated, as many on the forum seem to be, by the history etc. Gloss, simplistic representations seemed a waste of money to me. (Apologies in advance to you seasoned collectors out there!
)
Andy has set standards I would not have believed possible and you only have to look at his earlier peices to confirm even his continued improvement. I have little display space so put the pieces in a safe and secure place after photographing them. I have a reasonable collection now with thousands of photos whch I enjoy as a screen saver, a few of which I posted on this site.
These means that I often get to see them at greater than normal size. If you look at the quality of the work on say photo Kevin Elliott 78 or 76 - I mean Andy's not mine - that is the test, that is what excites me about these figures, the way they look so realistic - and that is how I try to display them on the photos and enjoy them every day.
Even if you did stand them up to admire them, as some on my shelf are, they could not stand as a dull line of old type gloss soldiers even if you set them up that way - they are too realistic and seem to come to life - or is it time for my medication now?
I do not collect any other lines, although I have murdered
a few HBG 250's in rough winter whitewash - but I am just not impressed enough with their soldiers (or Britains or others yet) in comparison to K&K. Some of them have good looking kit such as the odd tank or gun - I like the new Britain's Steyr for example (are you listening Andy?) but the figures do not match the king by a long mile.
Good look to Mike at NMA etc as if they, and others such as Honour bound who seem to have a wicked Panther - can recreate this standard - or make K&K even better - who is complaining? But if they are priced the same and not up to the same standard......
