soldiers and questions 031.JPGsoldiers and questions 032.JPGsoldiers and questions 009.JPGsoldiers and questions 008.JPGHi.

I have been amazed at the knowledge of the Tree Frog Forum members. I'm wondering if some of you would welcome a test of your toy soldier knowledge?

I bought these figures years ago. I don't know who made them. Some may be castings painted by hungry artists and sold to a soldier shop in New Orleans. Nonetheless, if you can tell me anything about the manufacturer then I would appreciate it.

Gen Lee was made by a man with last name of wall....sometime in the early 80s....he is from chattanooga

Could this be Ron Wall of Ron Wall Miniatures? If not, could you give me any other information on the Robert E. Lee figure?

Thanks,
MikeNick

I've got more info in from Mike in New Orleans about all the figures....

The Grant is Valiant but was originally Squadron Rubin.Valiant bought their molds after SR shut down.

The R E Lee is Cameo Minatures sculpted by Reg Boutet . The early Viet Nam figures he once had under his own name are also made by Valiant now-the Cameo line (unfortunately) is not.

The Nazi is H.A.M. from the 1960 s.They had drummer, private and officer in the same series.

Hope this helps but is making me feel very old. MW NOLA

I'm glad I am able to be the go between for this thread,

John

Question to ask your friend Mike in New Orleans

John,

Would you mind relaying a question for me to your friend Mike in New Orleans?

The French explorers Iberville and his younger brother Bienville began the colony of Louisiana. There is actually a statue of one of them in the French quarter.

Does Mike recall seeing any toy soldiers or miniatures for either Iberville or Bienville?

Henri de Tonti was another player in the early colonial period. He accompanied the two brothers, and he had an iron hook in the place of one of his hands. Does Mike recall seeing a figure for him as well?

I ask this since Le Petit was the toy soldier shop in New Orleans and the city markets itself on its French colonial past.

Thanks,
Mike
