You can think of this as the sequel to the Palmito Ranch diorama, even though it depicts an earlier battle. When I first visited the Texas Civil War Museum, they already had Palmito Ranch. By the time of my second visit, they had added a new diorama depicting the timely counterattack by the Texas Brigade during the Battle of the Wilderness.

"Lee to the rear!"

Lee's Texans refuse to let him put himself in harm's way.

In this photo you can just make out the Palmito Ranch diorama, with the steamboat, in the background.

I especially like the cabin representing the Widow Tapp farmhouse.

A Confederate sharpshooter in the outhouse. Has he simply chosen an unusual sniper's nest, or is he multitasking?

If the Museum wants in the future to represent the Western Theater, the charge of Granbury's Texas Brigade at the Battle of Franklin would be great subject matter. As a matter of fact, it would fit the motif of the other dioramas pretty closely: a bunch of Rebs plowing into or chasing down a bunch of Yankees. Then again, I'm not sure if they'd be interested in a battle in which the Texans are on the losing end. :wink2:

That for posting these photos of these dioramas.I really appreciate it.

Nice diorama! I always like to see a mass of troops on display like that. My great-great grandfather fought in a NC regiment near the same spot where the Texans were engaged. Thanks for the photos!
