Any body want to lay odds on when the outrage starts from Mexico, the gov't, and folks about the "Misrepresentations" of the massacres shown?
Ray

say it again Ray...

what does that mean?

In this age of political correctness portraying any incident that might cast a group in a negative light ie: showing Mexican troops executing captives wholesale or Killing the last of "the Heros" of the Alamo, regardless of historical accuracy ALWAYS brings out groups seeking to exploit.
Not that I have much confidence in the "History" channel to bring out an historically accurate portrayal of this bit of history, but this is from several commercials I've seen obviously portrayed as Texas good guys vs. Mexican bad guys, That will get some attention IMHO.

Ray...

I gotcha now...

I see what you are saying...and yes...that is what is called "politically correct" today...^&grin

nowadays...almost anything but "a down the middle of the road stance"...that you say or do is construed by one faction or the other as controversial...I personally don't pay much attention to it unless the offending party is blatantly hate related to religion or race...

the poor Washington Redskins have actually been boycotted by some fans as they won't comply with a name change...

on a side note...

there is a lot of controversy over the fall of the Alamo...especially with hardcore Texans...

I grew up with John Wayne being bayonetted as he blew the munitions storage of the Alamo...the Hollywood version...

a few years back a diary of a Mexican soldado was discovered and supposedly authenticated...which outraged a lot of Texans...where he claims the demise of Davy Crockett more like the Billy Bob Thornton version...captured and executed...

the dairy doesn't really mean that what was written in it at the time was gospel...it was only authenticated as it was very, very old and that the author was confirmed that he was a soldado in Santa Anna's army and was present at the Alamo...

Didn't mean to sound too negative but you and I are both down here in the border region, very near to all these actual sites, the Hispanic population is large and growing fast. Many Hispanic families trace there heratige in this land back farther than the men that formed the Country of Texas. I hope the producers don't loose sight of the fact that many Hispanics as well as blacks participated in the Independence movement, it could be a very sensitive subject.

Needless to say it sounds good and I will try and track it down

So, Goliad never happened?...So Santa Anna did not have a kill Rebels on sight policy? How far do you take political correctness, that we are supposed to pick and choose what was actual history, vs an edited, biased version of the same events..that will not offend anyone? Michael

I didn't think Texas was very concerned with political correctness, {sm2} let alone rest of the United States. {sm3} Personally, I'm against massaging history, not matter how unsettling it is. I think it is a discredit to people who lived and fought during that era. In Canada, any sort of historical commemoration or ceremony is plagued by political correctness. In a fairly recent example, organizers cancelled a mock Battle of the Plains of Abraham due to growing controversy and threats of violence from some Quebec separatists! This is confusing to me.

What are hard core Texans upset about; the Wayne depiction of Crockett getting stabbed with a lance and throwing a torch into the munitions storage (which never happened but is a "glorious" death) vs what really happened in that he was captured and executed (or so the authenticated diary says)?

I liked the Ron Howard version of how Crockett met his demise; that was brilliant, a giant eff you to the Mexicans, "I'm a screamer" was terrific, he went out on his own terms, good for him.

The Wayne version was Hollywood cheeseball at it's finest, the Howard version was much better, much more realistic and believable. Howard got the compound right to the last detail.

The continual controversies over the Alamo boggle my mind; trying to defend a compound with about 20% of the required manpower makes the whole thing a non starter to begin with.

yea...

the John Wayne ending was cheesy...
but I was 5 years old when I first saw The Alamo...
and as a kid...
and at that age...I loved cheese.. couldn't get enough...

the Billy Bob ending...
I loved it too...
defiant til the end...
"I'm a screamer"...
quite a bit a cheddar on that too...

which is real...I don't know...and it doesn't matter to me...the diary never upset me...history is written by the winners...

George...
do you watch Vikings?

for a big bowl of munster, mozzarella and gouda with some parmesan sprinkled on top...
watch this scene...
this is what you call going out on your own terms with a giant "eff you" to boot...

watch this big giant berserker getting his head lopped off...

to set the scene up for you...
he has asked the King of France if someone would hold his hair while they lop his head off...
so he could enter Vahalla with all of his hair intact...
