The virreinatos, were protected by military units recruited in the area composed of Creoles (sons of Spaniards born in the colonies), plus so-called brown battalions and free tans, which were composed of mulattos, blacks and Indians.
These regiments, wearing uniforms that the same style as the Spanish army.
In addition, the crown sent to the various virreinatos peninsular units, in some cases, twins regiments remaining on the peninsula and in other regiments and battalions recruited specifically as overseas regiments.
This was the case of the Tercios de Texas, intended to garrison the border positions, but in 1808 were still stationed in Cadiz, awaiting shipment.
The Tercios of Texas, initially, would be four of light infantry and four of cavalry, three companies each. In fact, only they came to constitute two battalions of light infantry, in 1808 after the outbreak of hostilities with France, were still in Cadiz, awaiting shipment to America. They joined the army of Oriental Andalucia, based in Granada and under the command of Don Teodoro Reding and participated in the Battle of Bailen.
The uniform of the Tercios of Texas, was the same court that the rest of the infantry.
