Well I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and it really stuck in my memory. The new one is something entirely different. If I had no recollection of the historical events behind this movie I would have really liked it. The new release is a cross between film and cartoon with a splash of history to give it a loose storyline. I did enjoy the movie and it was quite graphic to the displeasure of my wife but it was worth it for me to see it . I enjoyed the directors comic book views and cinematography it definitely gave the story a new perspective . All and all it was a pretty good movie but definitely geared toward a younger crowd. I don't know if a histry buff would enjoy it though. Hail Sparta

Hi Guys,

I dont usually listen the Movie critics but the local one gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars it sounds like a good manly man movie so I know I'll be checking it out.
After all its Hollywood not history so go and be entertained right.

All the best

Dave

It looks like a must see movie. They just had the history of the Spartans on the History Channel. They train their sons from 7 years old to be soldiers. Back when men were men. Mike.

Went to the late show last nite. Very fanciful but I really enjoyed it. Purists expecting a true historical account will scream about some artistic license{ war rhino, war elephants, the look of the Immortals etc.} but I thought it was a visual masterpiece.Remember, this was done in the style of a Graphic Novel, comic book. For what it was, I was fairly impressed, I want to see it again!
Far better than Alexander which tried to be history and to me was a miserable film for the most part.

Also there were many young people there and one could only hope that a spark of interest in history may have been lit.

Hi Fubar,

Thanks for the review. I will try to catch this movie!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I can't wait to see this. I read the comic when it came out a few years back and also read the Pressfield book "Gates of Fire".

Bring on those Immortals!

I saw it this past weekend. I thought it was a very good movie and it really pumps you up. My friend and I after the movie went out and bought some swords. Just kidding about the swords. :D
