As many of you know I am a collector of Britains. Doesn't matter what it is as long as it is stamped WB :D

Recently I won a lovely set of figures in a competition. These were made by Beau Geste. The only thing is I have nothing to display them with.

The wheels started turning the other day as I was looking at one of my smaller empty cabinets, and I came up with this. I think I am going to try and do and A-Z display in this cabinet of different manufacturers. The Beau Geste set has an officer and a trooper. So I think as I move on to each manufacturer I will add an officer and trooper from their range.

It will be a slow process to begin with as I am currently committed to the AZW and the Delhi Durbar.

As I progress I may ask for opinions on which officer and trooper I should add from a particular manufacturer.

I think this will be a neat display :)

A neat idea for a theme, Scott. Are you looking, then, to collect figures from the same unit, from as many manufacturers as made them, or from a particular arm of service (sounds like cavalry)?

Garratt's Encyclopedia might help in tracking down makers who operated before and up to the late 80s.

Prost!

Hmmmm I did think of that Brad but I think I would be limited to a very tiny number of manufacturers. I think I may go with just a mounted officer and a trooper on foot from any regiment and era.

Well, for "T", Tradition sells cuirassiers, dragoons and hussars from the Prussian army, in both kit form and finished, if I'm not mistaken, and they include an officer, a trooper, a standard- or guidon-bearer, and trumpeter. That could count for "T" or maybe even "S", for Stadden.

And for "D", DelPrado comes to mind.

Prost!
Brad

I did have Delprado down for D and for T I actually had Timpo but Tradition works.

I don't know whether to just do one manufacturer for each letter or add more. Perhaps start with one then when I reach Z start back at A with another maker and keep going.

Stop kidding yourself, you're just opening the floodgates:D:D:D:D:D

A stands for ALMA of course, it's those couple of figures you wanted painting! :D

i think it is a great idea.I was also thinking my self that it is nice to have toy soldiers from diferent companys.
But why limited yourself just on officer and trooper? Ok it is your wish and i respect that but i think maybe you add a flag bearer as well, that way you will have a little set(not too expensive because it will add only one more figure),but it will look very cool because of all this diferent flags,...you know that a flag can tell a lot about the history,army,...and if you put them on the display at your cabinet it will look like a war convention,a war meeting from all diferent nations in your room and you can also make a little diorama from that.
And one off topic question-are you interested in buying a Henrik VIII and his six wives set from me?
I buy this set of 7 figures and i never put them out from the box and display them and i feel kind of sorry for them laying in the box.Or we can trade for some other figures if you are interested?

THanks for all of your suggestions. I do also like the idea of adding a flagbearer to the set. That is a great idea Ales.

Hi Scott,

I think you have a terrific idea for a special display! Have you constructed a list of A through Z of manufacturers? If not, it might be fun to see how many we might be able to identify.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks Pat I haven't got a list as such, I have the main manufacturers in my head. My trouble is deciding which two figures out of the manufacturers range.

Just compiled this list please feel free to add any manufacturers I may have missed. Keep in mind I am trying to adhere to 54mm-60mm metal figures.

Hi Scott,

Wow! That is quite a list! However, I noticed you do not have a company listed for the letter "I." How about Imperial?

If you are interested, I can add a few more to your list. They are:

B: Barclay

C: Crescent

E: Elastolin

G: Grey Iron

I: Imperial

M: Monarch Regalia, Mignot, Manoil, Minikin

N: New Model Army

I am sorry I cannot help you with the letters: L, Q, R, U, V, X, Y, or Z. I am sure other collectors can contribute a few more manufacturers that we have overlooked.

At any rate, your project is a good one and sounds like worlds of fun. Good Luck with it and keep us informed!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Yo Trooper, its a big ask this one mate, an Officer & a Trooper man thats a minefield. What about just one from each which would be a lot easier. I started with an easy task:rolleyes: just going for 30 British line Cavalry Regiments, still haven't got them all. But then Jeff wont let me down;) nearly there lol.
Bernard.
