Hi Guys,
On a busy bustling street somewhere in Saigon three suspected Viet Cong are taken into custody.
Among the onlookers are a pair of South Vietnamese National Policemen, better known as the ‘White Mice’.
These police officers got tagged with this nickname because of their white shirts and a highly pejorative allusion to the typically small stature of most Vietnamese men.
It is said that the average American soldier was no fan of the national police mainly because they came into most contact with them when they were off duty and looking to enjoy their ‘R ‘n’ R’ in major cities like Saigon and elsewhere in South Vietnam.
The ‘White Mice’ themselves had many other problems besides drunken and/or obstreperous GIs… Their lousy and often infrequent pay led many of them into corruption and direct involvement in the very same criminal activities they were supposed to be fighting!
Their high visibility also made them obvious targets for Viet Cong assassination squads and terror attacks, for instance blowing up a local police headquarters or a vehicle checkpoint.
Throughout the war, an average of 1,000 ‘White Mice’ were killed each year mainly by Viet Cong attacks.
It’s not surprising perhaps that the embattled National Police had a fierce reputation for brutality and beating up anyone unfortunate enough to fall into their clutches.
In our little scenario the U.S. Military Policemen are also supported by a few of their ARVN counterparts in addition to the ‘White Mice’.
All the best and… Enjoy!
