Hola all:

Of all the WWII sets released in the last two years, which ones are the best? I know they are all great in their own special way, but which ones are the best. If you had to choose, if you were forced to choose, what would you pick? For me, its the Russians, in my opinion the RA08-RA15 is the best stuff I've seen from K&C.

You ask a very hard question my friend!.I'm thinking the Bulge U.S and Germans are really good.Also some of the new Eighth army stuff is excellant too.But if i had to choose i suppose 'crossing the road' would be my fave.Although i may change my mind every five mins and when the Brit paras are released!

For me the Typhoon and the ME110 are by far the most amazing things, as well all the new Afrika Corps stuff.
 
Of those that have wide distribution to all collectors (I have to exclude the two airplanes from this), my favorites would have to be the D Day Commonwealth troops from 2005, particularly the Bren Gun Carrier and Staghound.

A close second would be the Eighth Army releases from last year and the first Field of Battle issue.
 
I look at the Typhoon & Me 110 as a different category-although simply amazing. Were they not designed & built by the family "boutique/artisans"? How much imput was actually by the K&C design Team? Since I really do not know my vote for the best item/favorite item still stands with the Limited Winter Tiger Tank Set and of course ALL of Gordon's dioramas! My Honorable Mention goes to the new Gestapo & Speer sets as they are so unique. Keep up the great work! Oh, for those of you who love the airplanes, check out the GMP planes that are highly detailed complete with cloth seat belt/harness-they put Corgi to shame.
 
I must say the Staghound is one of my fave of all K&C vehicles.Wonderful model.I also like the wounded D Day G.I with the medic attending him.

To be honest, it's hard to say which is best since the craftmanship is of such a high quality all around. It's hard to pick one and say this is clearly better than that since they're all so darned good.
 
I like the set of four Italians in the AK series. Also anything from Berlin. The Puma was a nice little piece.
 
The great thing is that it is hard to disagree with any of the choices - its all a matter of taste, but it sure is fun having so many great things to chose from. So thanks Andy, Gordon and the rest of the K&C family!
 
Although slightly over the 2 year period, I'm sticking with the D-Day Commando sets and WS 58 Fighting Patrol for the figures and the Hummel for the vehicles.

Actually, Andy and Gordon have a great deal of input. You should have seen them buying and going through books on the various aircraft they are planning to have this studio produce, providing the exact model, markings etc. they want produced. They also visit the studio and factories in person for quality control and to make necessary corrections and changes. For example, the reason the Storch was held up was the factory made frosted glass canopies on the original sample, and while they had a cockpit, it was left one color, without painted details. Andy had them send him an unpainted cockpit, determined wht the correct gages/configuration was, then had his master painters paint the cockpit and return it to the factory. As I write this he is probably going over the first 10 production samples (which he expected to arrive while he was at the Symposium) with a fine tooth comb, making sure they meet K&C standards. Once he is satisfied, and puts in the first order for 300 or 500, it doesn't stop there, Andy will be watching the factory like a hawk, making sure the quality of the production samples doesn't slip with larger scale production. He already designed, had sculpted, painted and produced the three figures which go with the plane, and will be ready to launch the set as soon as he can walk the factory through the first production order. So believe me, Andy and the K&C design team have a geat deal of input in the design and construction of both factory and studio warbirds.
 
Yeah i would have voted for the commandos but i thought it was out of the remit.Like more of them come to think of it.

I believe Andy said that as soon as he got back he'd be heading up to the factory. I don't believe there's anything at K & C that doesn't have his personal imprimatur.
 
Thanks Louis & Brad-I was not sure of the level of their involvement which you outlined. In that case I have changed my mind. The two planes (especially the Typhoon) are my favorite closely followed by the Limited Winter Tiger!

Those planes are pretty darn terrific. I got to see them up close and they're pretty amazing. Real fantastic workmanship. One thing I noticed which indicated to me how no detail was forgotten are the holes where the stand goes. In the older planes, it went right into the wood underbody so sometimes you'd have paint flick off. In these, the makers put some sort of metal insert into the plane's underbody so that the stand fits very smoothly, avoiding any of those paint problems.
 
Well i love the Normandy 88 and its crew,but i didn't think we were going back that far.Has anyone else felt how heavy that 88 is.Its heavier than my credit card after a chat with Tony Neville!!

It certainly is a decent hunk of metal,the postage on that one was a killer :D
