Hi All,
I just saw this on my Criterion Collection DVD. All the web references say this film was made in 1956, but the date in the actual film is 1957. An old b/w classic, it is an anti-war movie with a lot of singing and harp playing. Basically, a dis-illusioned Japanese soldier decides not to return to Japan but to stay and bury the Jap dead left on the battlefields.
I loved the b/w imagery and scenic shots of the stark Burmese landscape.
