I would consider collecting The Roman series, but I would want some sort of opposing "force" to display them with.
It looks like from Sager's website that K&C offered a dozen figures of the CBG** series at some point (no photos available). These Celts would be great enemies for the Romans to fight, and I wonder if Andy plans on releasing more of them?

I read somewhere recently that K&C indeed has plans to release more Romans and an opposing army, don,t remember which.
The old Celts are impossible to find, occasionally someone from the UK will put some on ebay, but that,s it.

Opposing Forces for Romans

Back in February Andy told me he hoped to release some Barbarian figures this year to go with the Romans. A lot of people like to collect Romans but once they have some opposition I think they'll take off even more.

Some of the St. Petersburg studios do really excellent Celts, Gauls, Germanic tribes and so forth. At one stage Thor's "AeroArt St. Petersburg Collection" had repackaged figures from Andre Arsynev's "Russian Vityaz" studio and also included figures from Rogatchev, Grenada, Sineus and so forth. However, it was always cheaper to buy from source in the Russian Federation. (But NOT for the faint-hearted. Be prepared to wait weeks for a figure. And there's no branding or packaging: you've got to hope that the Cyrillic inscription on the base means 7 out of 10 quality painting and is signed by the artist of the studio and not one of his understudies making money on the side from a rejected piece that he completed himself). Valeri Malyguine sells on eBay as ValMaly, his auctions usually entailing the term "souvenir arts". His website isn't great but it is in Western alphabet. The husband and wife team of Boris Kolomystev and Olga Romantchuk trade on eBay as Kolobob and soldierss respectively but they also have a good website. Many other Russian studios have sprung up recently (Argo to Azimuth) of varying quality.

Which brings me to my point: it's a very crowded market. If Andy wants to put some coherence to it he'll need to plan for a huge release of a dozen sets: a 4 set start like BBA in an already-established WWII routine just won't be enough to get over that critical threshold to distinguish from being one in the crowd in the Ancients miniature market. One advantage Andy has is his imagination: I'm sure he'd take the risk on seige equipment and other vehicle-type sets which the miniature-oriented Russian studios avoid.

That's just my 2c. Incidentially, do many of you collect the Roman sets at present?

Andy did make about a dozen Celts, both mounted and dismounted, but they were kind of primitive sculpting wise. They really fit better with the original K&C Roman release than the later, much better sculpted second release. I have a copy of the Celts brochure, and if you have a color fax, I will fax it to you.

Can't say I do. The reason, the usual list: space and money, plus it's not an area I'm that interested in. I'd be more likely to collect revolutionary war first.

Louis,
I sent you a private message with my fax number.
Please send the Celts brochure, and the West brochures that you have.
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks, Louis.
According to the brochure, K&C produced 15 different Celts, Britons, and Gauls, 3 of them being mounted, with all released in 1998-1999.
These figures look cool from the brochure's individual photos, and the large battle scene photo with the Barbarians on the cliffs, and the 20th Roman legion marching below, is spectacular.

Since I,ve been collecting the only time I seen the entire early Romans & the entire Celt set for sale was on ebay from a guy in the UK about 8 months ago.
It really wasn,t that expensive but at the time I had spent my allotment of K&C funds on other sets are I might have bid.
The really nice piece I thought was the Roman catapolt.

The Romans and Celts Diorama you are describing is owned by one of the gentlemen who work for the Old Toy Soldier Home in San Diego (not the owner, Craig). It is a pretty cool diorama. The Romans were also meant to be displayed with both forts (the Four piece wood and papier mache and the 8 Piece polystone), the Great Wall Gateway (wood and papier mache), and a Triumphal Arch (polystone). Its a fun series.
