The Deluge (2-Disc Series) (1974)

I'm watching this series right now. It has English subtitles. Some good sword fighting and cosrtumes. The matchlock firearms "shoot" but don't function which is disappointing.

"This series directed by Jerzy Hoffman picks up where the first, With Fire and Sword, left off. Inspired by Nobel prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz's book, The Deluge finds Poland at a nexus; change is in the offing as the Swedish army marches into the country. Amid the chaos stands a nobleman, Andrzej Kmicic (Daniel Olbrychski), who's weathering the trauma of war even as he wrestles with his love for a woman named Olenka (Malgorzata Braunek)."

A neat scene from the movie on Youtube of the Swedish army marching into Poland in the 1600s, with pike and musket formations. Several other scenes are on Youtude as well of the Battles.

Potop 1974 (Armia szwedzka), The Deluge 1974 (Swedish Army)

Scott,

Thank you for the recommendation to what seems to be a good movie.

Carlos

I saw the secind half today. A good battle scene with the Polish Winged Hussars and a seige of an important monestery. The hero is indestructable and survives a sword blow to the head, a gun shot in the face, being blown up, tortured with fire, trampled in one battle and gun shots in a second. He gets the girl.
