I've finally found some pix on ebay of the 3 Britains Super Deetail figures that were never given a full release. They look extremely cool - it's a real pity that for whatever reason they were never widely available.

I think I am right in saying these were overmoulded, which was a costly process and hence why they weren't released.

Cool!
Never knew about these. The Super Deetail 'modern' Paras were my favourite figures from that range. Thanks for posting the pics James.

Scott, knowing nothing of casting / moulding etc, what does overmoulding involve?

Cheers
Simon

I am not 100% sure on the process Simon. Overmoulding means that they use different coloured plastics to create the figure, therefor requiring very little painting (or naone at all).

I had some of the Britains ballet figures that were cast in this process. (I was dating a ballerina at the time.)

The figures turned brittle and broke.

Thanks Scott. For a big swirly mess of green brown and yellow, they came out pretty good looking.

Just seen the B-I-N on these figures
£82 each? I like 'em, but not that much.

You're right Simon! They're great but not £82 each great - I wonder if they will sell at that price?
I'm still puzzled as to why they made so few though. I can see the reasoning behind the expense but they rereleased the original four figures in different colours so why not these 3 if the molds were already there?
It's a mystery! :)

Thats a good question? Perhaps they don't have the moulds or perhaps the moulds that are needed for overmoulding can't be used in a sigle colour?

The seller states 1200 of each were made. Whilst I appreciate that that number is not huge, I'm surprised that they have not surfaced before (at least, I've never come across them before).

And where are the molds for these and the other 4 poses......

1200 is probably a drop in the ocean compared to how many of the original 4 figures must be out there.
But it seems a high figure for them not to surface very often - i've only seen them once before though granted i'm not searching on a regular basis.
I somehow think that 1200 of each is an incorrect figure.

I always liked those figures, and somehow acquired a nice little group many years ago.

I dug them out from a shelf in one of my closets awhile ago, here is a photos of them.......dusty but mint!:)

I have an urge to dig my Deetail collection out now! I think their Afrika Korps Kubelwagen and BMW combo are incredible vehicles. So good I still have em on display.

I do also only have the 4 common poses, in all 3 colours Green, Grey & Red:

I will offcause also love to have the 3 very rare poses, but will not pay £82.00 each. Who knows, I might be lucky that they pop up in a mix box one day:eek:

Eazy: I do also love Britains Diecast WW2 Vehicles and have nearly all, here is some off them:

Still looking for those I do not have.

I really like that Deetail Long Tom - i'll have to look out for that one.

Just found some pictures to clarify what is what, now I hope I have got it right:

I had a great Super Deetail hospital set with doctors, nurses and patients. It was really brittle after a while, and the hands simply fell off the arms at the slightest touch!
:eek::eek:

They were very beautiful, though. I only wish Britains had solved that problem before releasing them!

Cheers...

That was a great series, some of the sets make lots of money on eBay

I have a bunch of these figures. Not $82 a piece. I think I sold the ones I had available for around $20-25 per. Somebody is a little lofty.
