My new Curio Cabinet came in today - that makes 4 Cabinets in the Living Room....in a Townhouse on Capitol Hill

Still not sure how I got away with this

Also - Have a very large Curio in my Office.

Anyway - How many Curio Cabinets do you guys have out there ??

I'm sure it look great Ron.

I should have gone with the furniture type Curio Cabinet myself, it would have pleased the wife more than the giant Franklin Mint Display Case I have in the living room

But I can fit some of the larger type item's like the Conte Ships all under glass in it. At least that's what I tell her ;)

I wanted another one and she said, " why, are you going to put me in it "

I got her point, its huge and dominates the whole room

Take a picture of that cabinet - I would love to see it.

I haven't really seen any Franklin Mint Displays before

The great thing about a new cabinet is ... as you put things n the new cabinet - you create new open spaces in the old ones :D

Muhahahahahaha - My Plan is Working Perfectly

;) Ron

My collection is such that once the soldiers are in the house I am okay. The problem arises when the mailman rings the bell, the Mrs. answers the door, and states there is another package of soldiers.

I have one, currently undergoing refinishing. Actually, it's a china cabinet, three shelves, the whole cabinet on legs, probably circa 1910 or so. Not sure about the wood at this point. I thought at first it was mahogany, but after stripping/sanding, it doesn't have the same tinge that bare mahogany has. Maybe cherry?

This is going to house all of my Reeves figures, when finished. Lots of Ready-Strip, scraping and sanding first.

Prost!

On Franklin Mint and their cases--

I saw once, over on German eBay, a set of figures up for auction, they were German hussars from around 1700 to 1918. The figures were made by Franklin Mint for Germany, and were 90mm or 100mm in height. The figures themselves were very nicely sculpted, and were antiqued for a finish. But the icing on the cake was the display case that they had offered with the set.

It's so, isn't it, that for many of the collections that Franklin Mint sold, they provided a display rack to go with them. Another collection that comes to mind, as an example, was their beer tankard collection. Remember these? They were small mugs, with different breweries represented, but there was also a dark-cherry finish?-stained wood wall rack for the collection.

FM actually put out some decent figure collections, over the years. The Yorktown commemorative was good (my avatar is the Steuben figure), as was the Medieval Trades series, and the German Army Tradition regiments.

Sorry, I seem to have diverged from the thread's theme. Please forgive me, I'm on my second liter.

Prost, beianand!

Capitolron,

First off, you can still get property cheap across from the Navy Yard if you want to store your figs in a fixer-upper. Anything on Galveston Pl. SE is ideal also!;)

I have four IKEA display cabinets loaded with LL and older makers like Caberfeidh, Imererial and Trophy. Mike

Basically have 1 cabinet - 6 x6 with adjustable shelves. It was a store fixture. As the number of troops increase, I add shelves- some of the shelves are getting close together- gotta cut back.

Not so sure on that anymore - since the Nationals built their Baseball Stadium - land across the Navy Yard is actually going up in value

Ikea makes a great little modern cabinet for the right price ;) - I have one in my office as well as the old Conte display cabinet and a table top four shelf - Bombay cabinet.

As my wife says "You have them everywhere ! " :D

The problem about my TROOP REDEPLOYMENT is that you can't take too many items out of one Curio Cabinet - too much open space could cause a remark like "Why Don't You Get Rid Of That Cabinet - Since Its Empty ? "

I am having to move much slower on filling the new Cabinet - without leaving my FLANKS weak ;)

Capitolron,

You need to get a pamphlet out on how to handle the spouse. I tell her each figure is like gold.

Name the new how-to pamphlet "Don't Ask Me Stupid Questions...Honey"
Mike

Sorry I can't post pictures of my cabinet Ron,

Someday I'll be posting pictures as good as you do

I have three cabinets, one 20" X 60" desk and 9 6"X 48" shelves and other locales in which to place figures and Armour.

Let's see ... there are 2 Ikea cabinets, and a bookcase in my bedroom. 3 more bookcases in the boys' rooms (away in college) and a curio in the family room. Looking for another curio for the main hall & trying to post pics.

When the boys set up their own homes ... I will convert theirs to an official war room .. and out of bounds for anybody below 3 ft. :D

OK - Here's what you have been waiting for - PHOTOS OF THE CURIO ! :D

enjoy - I sure am. ;)
