Just watching this one on on demand. I really like this one. I originally did not when I was younger. Now at 46 I can readily appreciate the drama of this WWII cat and mouse game.

I have this on dvd,a very enjoyable war movie from the days when War films were in vogue.

I have always enjoyed "The Enemy Below". I own the DVD and still leave the TV on whatever channel it happens to be on. I can practically recite the dialog. I can't think of anyone who could have done better in the leads than Mitchum and Jurgens, but they had good supporting casts also.

There were several movies from the 1950s to early 60s that benefitted from the USN having WW2 ships still in use for training. The USN loaned out an actual WW2 Buckley-class DE to portray the "USS Haynes". The scenes of a DE in action are about the best ever filmed. The very last scenes are filmed aboard a later Sumner/Gearing class destroyer (note the twin 5" mount behind Mitchum and Jurgens as they speak to each other). I love the music, too.

Some of the other movies that benefitted from US Navy ships include "Away All Boats" (USS Randall portrayed the attack transport "USS Belinda"), "The Caine Mutiny" (they didn't have a four-piper but loaned the film crew a pre-war DMS), "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" used the USS Oriskany (now sunk as a reef off Florida), and there were others.

Good movie but for WW11 sub movies "Das Boot" has to take 1st prize.

And there is also 'Run silent run deep'.
