I ordered this oil painting from a Chinese web site about 10 days ago. I used a credit card through Pay Pal so I have some trust that I will actually receive the item or at least get my money back. I don't know of the quality but I am willing to give them a try. They say on the site that it takes about 4 weeks to receive the painting. Its a company that has painters hired to make copies of originals to order so who knows what the quality will be. Only way to find out is to order one, so I did.

The original, by Eugene Delacroix, is in the Louvre in Paris. I don't remember seeing it when I was there but that does not mean it is not as the Louvre is huge and I could not have seen it all in just 4 hours.

I intend to use the paint, once I get it framed, above my K&C and JG Miniatures Crusaders/Castle diorama.

They also have Benjamin West' "The death of Wolfe" that is on display in Ottawa in the National Gallery of Canada.

The site offers framing, but I would rather select the type of frame I want, if the painting is acceptable, in person.

Great site! Give us an update on the quality when you get it. I'm thinking that Napoleon at Jaffa would look good behind some napoleonic K&C Camels that I'm sure they will make:D(just hoping).

I ordered the 24"by 36" size for $125, it seemed a reasonable price for an unframed oil painting. I have spent far more for oil paintings of sailing ships by Montague Dawson

and prints by James Flood
http://www.jamesaflood.com/sailship.htm.

I have not purchased anything from either of these sights, I just provided them to show the art work.

After toy soldiers, days of sail paintings and prints are my favorite collectables, followed by books and then cd's of the middle to late 60's and early 70's rock.

I don't recall seeing that one but the museum is so big. However, I would love to get his Liberty Leading the People. Let us know how if turns out and if you're satisfied.

Here is an update on the painting. I received an email from someone identified as "Steve", real name or not who knows, but the email was very courteous and was as promised in an email acknowledging the order. Steve included a picture of the finished painting (as seen below).

This is a copy of what Steve emailed -

“Hello, we did finish 1 painting of your order.
Enclosed pls find out the related photo of the painting and check.
Will send out your order upon receipt of your confirmation if necessary.
Don't hesitate to tell us if you have any comments.
Waiiting for your further information soon!”

This is what I sent to Steve last night (after looking at length at the photo he provided) –

“Steve,

Is it possible to make the painting a bit darker (more aged) and less bright or new looking. It does look very good. When I compare it to the picture of the original on your site, it may be that the original is older and more changes have occurred over time, but the your painting just seems to be so new looking.

I know that the artist put a lot of work into it and is a much better painter than I. If making it darker is not possible, I will proudly frame it and put it on my wall in a special place.

I have referred others to your web site and I hope that they have purchased or will purchase from you.

Michael”

And this is the response I got back this evening -

Hello, Michael!
Thanks for your further information.
Will let the artist correct at your request and send u more photos soon!
Sincerely, Steve

When you compare the artist’s version, I don’t know how much the camera changes the paintings actual color or other aspects of its appearance, it just seems too bright, new, or fresh when compared to the original. I can’t get the picture of the original to transfer over to this thread so here is the link.

The important thing is that the company so far is doing what they said they would and that they are responsive to my comments about the artists work. I anticipate a happy result and I getting a couple more to accentuate my collection.
