The Forgotten Soldier, an autobiography of Guy Sajer, a german soldier fighting on the Russian front. This is an excellent book, which I highly recommend. Very graphic and hard to put the book down.

Good call on this title. This has been an Eastern Front classic since its publication in the early 70's. If I remember correctly, Sajer was an Alsatian drafted into the German Army and I believe he was in the "Grossdeutchland Division". It is a GREAT read. -- lancer

Hi Guys,

It is indeed a great read! Have read it twice and was just as engrossed both times. Highly recommend you read it if you havent.

All the best

Dave

This is my second time reading it also. There's no glory here, just survival, bitter cold, no sleep, desperate hunger, atrocities and the insanity of combat.
