For any collectors who're contemplating obtaining any of the manufacturers ranges of WWI figures, you can't go wrong if you also get the series of BBC Documentaries entitled "The Great War". I bought this excellent series 3 or 4 weeks ago and its rarely off my TV.
My version contains 7 disc's in all and it is presented in around 30-odd episodes. What I especially liked was that it doesn't just concentrate on the Western front, but considers all the other conflicts as well, such as the Balkans, Dardanelles, East Africa, War at Sea, etc.
I thoroughly recommend this informative and thought-provoking series.

Couldn't agree more Harry, easily (imho)the best docu on WW1 ever made. Can i also recommend other WW1 series; 1914-18 narrated by Dame Judy Dench, superb grounding and basic facts of the War.Also Channel four's excellant 'The First World War' another must have series. Also a series of three DVD's entitled 'Great Battles of the Great War' each DVD covers one Battle; Gallipoli,Somme,Ypres.

I'm not well informed as to new (for me) series on UK TV Rob, but I'll have a hunt for these in Dubai on Saturday. Thanks for the heads-up.

The Great War episodes have been airing on the Military Channel here in the USA - I agree, very informative.

I would second the recommendation of "The First World War" 10-part series. Again, it shows the war was very much a global one and not just fought in trenches like stereotypically shown.

Yes thats right. It really did take in a whole lot more than the trenches, and gave the global perspective.I also enjoyed hearing about solitary German ships giving the Royal Navy the run around, must have been a source of much annoyance at Naval headquarters.

Hey Rob, I picked up a DVD copy of the 1980's BBC series "The Monacled Mutineer" in Dubai a couple of days ago. Its the one with Paul McGann as Percy Topliss (The afore-mentioned MM). I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I remember it as being a pretty good retelling of the Brit troop mutinies at Etaples in France.
Oh, and also Michael Woods 2-DVD edition of "In Search of the Trojan War" - AND - the final volume (postumous unfortunately) of David Gemmel's trilogy on Troy for some light reading. So once I wade through that little lot, then I guess the forum's in for a renewed appeal for a poll along the lines of "Would members like to see K&C offer a Trojan War range? Yes or No?
In additionn I also picked up a 4-DVD set of Tom & Jerry's Classic Cartoons.....but we'll draw a veil over that one.:eek::):):)
Cheers

Yeah, I watched a couple of the Tom & Jerry clips last night - Brilliant, and even more so cos they're the old ones which were made before the curse of PC struck Hollywood.

No doubt about it,the old ones were the best.
